If it is due to the economy I guess jewels and art are the worst things to steal, unless one knows people to turn them over to for cash.

All that risk and now they got to melt it and break it????????? like that takes skill and then they got to sell it

The problem is that they cannot resell as is. What they stole is really well known. It will be really hard to resell without getting caught.

Who's gonna buy the booty?
Private collectors who will keep it hidden..cus someone will drop a dime on them ...sooner or later
Selling it piece meal gets them ...maybe .$40-.50 on the dollar...so $60-75 million...
There's been bigger heist in the past...and they've never recovered the booty..possibly cus the piecemeal it off
