Reading that suggests we should use the term "looting" rather than "smash and grabs" in order to reduce racism.

Leading anthropological social science researchers suggest that threatened races incessant whining should now be referred to as "bleating" so as not to disturb their fragile mental and emotional state as they fade away in the process known as natural selection.

This is a dumb article and a waste of bandwidth. Who'd even pay attention to what looters/thieves should be called?

Arrest them and convict them.

This assumes they are different because of race and/or tribal ideological associations meanwhile it’s just an idea and a fantasy that will never survive the test of time. Some people think they are god while others think their religion will take them to heaven while some think they are superior because of race or colour of their skin and some believe they are meaningless. They all share a commonality which is they all believe illusions and ideas define their identity.

"... Looting is a term that we typically use when people of colour or urban dwellers are doing something,” Boyd, a retired cop, told KGO . “We tend not to use that term for other people when they do the exact same thing....”

Yes, looting is offensive to pirates, vikings and Conan the Barbarian.

Yes, looting is offensive to pirates, vikings and Conan the Barbarian.
And whining is offensive to a certain segment of the species, homo sapiens.

And that is why "bleating" should be employed to describe their incessant mind numbing whining and petty grievances.

So none of you read the linked-to piece did you?

Where we find out why they are saying not to call it looting?

But according to the California Penal Code, what we saw was not looting.

The penal code defines looting as "theft or burglary...during a 'state of emergency', 'local emergency', or 'evacuation order' resulting from an earthquake, fire, flood, riot or other natural or manmade disaster."

Posting this is is the new game on TERB. Apparently the fact that shoplifting is no longer a felony in CA - or anywhere else, as far as I am aware - means that the felony robbers who hit these stores - AND COMMIT A TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND FAR MORE SERIOUS CRIME - now apparently do so with impunity and it's all the Dem's fault. I responded to this in another thread on TERB posted by another member a couple of days ago.

(Leaving aside the fact that a judge is perfectly free to hit shoplifters with a severe custodial sentence in any event if he / she feels the facts are exceptional).

That's what I would have described the difference as. Looting is taking advantage of chaos to profit. These smash and grabs are just planned thefts.

More significantly, it's pretty dumb to get suckered by a Sun article trying to create controversy over a random academic's statement.

This is the kind of logic that leads to "Men can rape with impunity in Canada because there is no crime called Rape".
