"A Toronto judge acquitted Ahmed Baig of assault charges related to the choking and striking of a 7-year-old girl after accepting that he was in a state of cannabis-induced psychosis. He was shouting "Allah" while doing the crime.

An Ontario court acquitted 38-year-old Ahmed Baig of assault charges after accepting that a severe, unexpected reaction to cannabis rendered his actions involuntary.

Baig did not dispute that he committed the physical acts. However, his defense argued automatism—the state of acting without conscious control.

Justice Mara Greene accepted expert psychiatric evidence showing that Baig experienced a rare, unexpected cannabis-induced psychotic reaction. The judge ruled that this condition constituted non-mental-disorder automatism, meaning the attack was involuntary. Because Canadian law dictates that an individual cannot be convicted if their actions were entirely involuntary, Justice Greene found Baig not guilty on all counts."

Justice Mara Greene should him play with her kids.
Time to abolish Canadian law system that is now based on suicidal empathy and privilege system. Don't get fooled: the fact that he is Muslim played a big part. White Christian guy would get served a sentence.

What would be the outcome if down in Massachusetts Lindsay Clancy had a toke of the Devil's lettuce prior to her act? Not sure what MA law states compared to this case in Ontario.

What did being a Muslim have a "big part" in him getting off? Does the Canadian justice system go lighter on Muslims?

Is there a non-mental disorder that can happen with alcohol similar to automatism?

It may have been inadmissible?

I don't think it was just weed he was contentedly puffing on, more like crack cocaine.

I haven't looked heavily into the case, but if an expert psychiatric evidence was hard enough that does change things. Perhaps the same hard evidence should apply to folks under alcohol who do things not in the right state of mind.

They must have looked if he got his weed from a licensed store unless he was walking around Danforth or Bathurst. Been there done that. No thanks.

Maybe the THC was way too high for him first time trying something that high. I personally can't stand the high THC stuff on the market. I prefer the odd sativa with more CBD than THC. Or at least THC under 35%.

Give me real facts, such as actual statutes, not isolated cases. I'm sure I could give similar cases involving white Christians, but I don't have a hate on them like you and the original poster do on Muslims.
you do not need more evidence, it's all around you

what you lack is awareness

I can help you with that

simply hold this thought in your mind

"Fuck Trump" that should be easy for you

make it your mantra

try to keep that thought for 5 min.

when you forget, just gently remind yourself to go back to

"Fuck Trump"

you will see how difficult it is to even hold your favorite thought for a few minutes

than you will realize how unaware you are

keep working with this and maybe one day you will see the light

Where do you get the idea I hate Muslims or others? I put Muslim in the title cause that's what news articles said too along with him losing his mind saying "Allah". A few of my close friends from high school days are Muslim.

If it was a Christian or Catholic I'd put that in the title and say in the body of the post he was shouting "Jesus".

My only concern is acquitted due to automatism. I don't follow cases. But if an article interests me I bring it up for discussion.

He also said;

"When police asked Baig if he wanted a lawyer, he “stated that he wanted Neil Patrick Harris or a lawyer from a television show,” said the decision. “He also talked about bitcoin and lotteries.”"

in 2022 R. v. Brown (2022) / R. v. Sullivan (2022 )

  • Facts: In Brown, the accused consumed alcohol and magic mushrooms (psilocybin), broke into a home in Calgary, and violently attacked a woman. In Sullivan, the accused experienced an automatistic state triggered by a mental disorder.
  • Ruling: The Supreme Court of Canada unanimously ruled that Section 33.1 of the Criminal Code—which previously barred automatism defenses for violent offenses involving self-induced intoxication—violates sections 7 and 11(d) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and is unconstitutional.
  • Impact: The ruling allowed the acquittal in Brown and Sullivan, prompting Parliament to enact Bill C-28 (effective June 23, 2022) to address criminal accountability for extreme self-induced intoxication

There is no need to point at the judge, the accused, their religion, race, or any other personal characteristic. The case should be evaluated based on the facts and the law as it exists in this country.
What I find curious is that you chose to bring up the accused's religion and then doubled down on it. Why?
What relevance does it have to the actual case or the legal outcome?
If the law was applied incorrectly, then criticize the application of the law. If the law itself is flawed, then criticize the law. But attributing the outcome to someone's religion without demonstrating a direct connection doesn't add anything meaningful to the discussion.

Can an induced psychosis happen with alcohol if it can happen with weed?

Someone blanks out when drinking seems similar. And if so, can this horrific judgement set persistence for future DWI cases. Or that case from a few years ago when that rich kid, Muzzo, mowed down a the grand kids and grand parents.

There is something seriously wrong with our system.

"What I find curious is that you chose to bring up the accused's religion and then doubled down on it. Why?"

How did I double down? Read post #14. I came across the below link and posted. So I posted similar. I forgot to post the link and put quotations. My mistake.

Other news articles within the body of their story (not the headlines) bring up he shouted "Allah" and is Muslim.

If you have an issue with all this then perhaps contact a few news media outlets globally and voice your concern.

"If the law was applied incorrectly, then criticize the application of the law. If the law itself is flawed, then criticize the law. "

The law was applied. Where did I dispute that?

"But attributing the outcome to someone's religion without demonstrating a direct connection doesn't add anything meaningful to the discussion."

Once again, feel free to email a bunch of news outlets globally and voice your concern too.

If the first news article I came across said "Catholic mother strangles her 3 kids and said that she's glad they are safe in Heaven" I would have posted that in another topic of mine.

I guess you must dislike many news articles for mentioning his religions and saying "Allah". Interesting.

Pretty standard decision based on caselaw that goes back at least a century and white people get the benefit of that law too.

Go find something else to whine about, Muslim haters.

Below article mentions a lot more (very in-depth; please read). Judge deemed the chance of it happening again very low so there's no public risk. He's a pothead who was also sleep deprived and trying a new weed strain that caused him to act like that apparently since he's been smoking for over 20 years.

What my issue with all this is what if the child had died? How does automatism compare to alcohol if someone drove away and killed people. Is that not a type of automatism?
