That was a hell of a show put on by Kimi, top 6 would have been a great showing but to hunt down Russell was insane. Kimi pretty much cements his position as the team #1.
I predict an awful lot of hungover Italians Monday morning.

Another Kimi, (Raikkonen), won the 2005 Japanese Grand Prix from 17th on the grid in one of the all time great F1 races

Watch it here or Click here to download, (1.2 GB, Xvid).

Legend has it that party animal Kim would be fast asleep until about half an hour before a race, then one of the pit crew would dump a bucket of ice cold water on his head to wake him up. After partially drying his hair by shaking his head like a dog, Kimi would be good to go. I think he slept in his driving suit, and he just needed someone to put on his boots and tie the laces for him while he readjusted to waking life.

Kimi has the spirit of Niki Lauda within him.

I can't get into the US Open without his buddy participating.

I don't see any constructive purpose in providing links to YouTube videos which can't be displayed on TERB. The reason why they can't be displayed is because of the advertising content, which is bypassed when hotlinking to a forum.

The closest approximation to providing a link to the YouTube page might be to make a screen capture of the YouTube url, and post that as an image on TERB. I don't know if your browser has screen caps among the options; I use my unregistered copy of WinSnap 3.5.5 that I got from one of the other mods for the dafont(dot)com forums.

Leclerc bumped his teammate off the track relegating Hamilton from 4th to 10th. Bone headed. Then he crashed moments later all on his own. Wow!

Crashed in almost the identical spot where he crashed 6 years ago. Think he would know the continuous drain cover was there....

Kimi is never going to the Ferrari shit show for any amount of money.
I didn’t say he was going anytime soon but it’s been almost 40 years since there was an Italian driver who even stood a chance at winning a title and over 70 years since there was an Italian champ. Ferrari will certainly be making offers,

My guess is he stays at Merc long term and then drives for the red team at the end of his career like Hamilton unless something drastically changes in the pecking order.

Anyone else think that McLaren kinda fucked up? Hindsight being 20/20 and all, but if he'd kept going knowing he'd missed the VSC window, at his pace he could've built up enough of a buffer to get a free pitstop? That car was flying in free air!

Nah, they might but at the moment the track was still green. If they had pitted and the VSC never came out they would have been made the butt of all jokes.

Norris has won races because of the VSC falling in his favour. Kimi lost out on two races by VSC's earlier this year

Solution to VSC - make it hold for one lap minimum, call it a fixed time...then every driver gets the benefit instead of those lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. Then after that the VSC can end at anytime to suit the track all clear conditions.

It is not as simple as that.

One lap means, lap time of the person leading or is it Cadillac? Also how does one calculate what is one lap, when the cars may be pitting during the lap, and the pit times may vary.

What if one team decides not to pit that lap, then how do you calculate one lap?

And if you are going with absolute one lap, which car is your reference point? Is the car in P1 at that moment? Yesterday for most of the race (after the VSC) it was Charles who was leading.

Remember:
1) VSC is meant for safety of the drivers and the Marshalls. Not for anything else
2) if it is that simple, it would have been implemented already
3) there are many smart people on the grid, whatever is the rule, someone will gain an advantage in very specific scenario

Or... don't allow pit stops during VSC since it's so hit and miss on timing.
At least with the real SC you know it's gonna be a few laps minimum.

I don't care either way honestly... as mentioned all drivers have benefitted or lost with the VSC over the course of a season.

I was merely pondering McLaren's decision to bring him in on a full pit instead of keeping him in free air to see if he could extend his lead.
If not... come in anyway. But if so... leave him out and try to build a cushion. 🤷‍♂️

That's the another option - close the pit lane as the basic idea of the VSC is to stop the action for a brief period of time. But I think a one lap minimum would work as all the drivers have to drive to a delta, if one driver is purposely going slow he gets nailed with a penalty. We see 3 sectors on TV, the teams and the FIA have many more sectors actually laid out. Any slow pokes will show up on their computer systems in a split second.

Longer stoppage of action would fall under safety car or red flag.

I do not understand what you mean by 'VSC for one lap minimum'. Walk me thru the details.

In this case, say Norris was on Turn 8 (out of 22) on Lap 10, when the VSC begins. And they are ready to resume racing when Norris is on Turn 20 on the same lap (10). Instead of resume to racing conditions, race control should wait till Norris pits and is back to Turn 8 (where the VSC started) on Lap 11? What if Norris has a 8 second pit stop? What if P2 did not stop for the pits on the lap before Norris?

Also why talk only about someone who was in P1. What do we do about someone who is in say P10. Should we then, wait for them to make a full lap so that the person in P11 does not overtake during VSC/pit stop?

Absurd suggestion, I agree. If you want to make everyone be in the same position, the only way is to STOP at the exact location when the VSC is about to begin and START from the exact location when the VSC is about to end. Even then, someone who is stopping in a corner will not have the same advantage over someone who is stopping in the straight.

as mentioned all drivers have benefitted or lost with the VSC over the course of a season.
Agree. There is an element of luck/unluck in all sports.

We all have seen the bizarre Hulk retirement a few races ago.
