Can't help wondering if the owners got a lowball offer to buy from a sketchy developer and "unwisely" turned it down. That's how fires happen, people.

That's quite a theory. Anyway I was a frequent flyer there for years in the 70s and 80s because I owned a business close by. It was a hole in the wall but I really liked it.

So Fillmore's is gone, rumor is the Brass Rail will shut down December 31st of this year, and I don't think they'll be able to save the Zanzibar.
It looks pretty much destroyed from this video:

If I knew what I know now, I would’ve passed on Filmore’s (or any strip club) and simply waited until Vanessa began working at Club Dynasty and used all that money only on sessions with her.

I' miss Filmore's too. I always preferred it to the Brass and Zanz. A lot more chill, and I had a lot of seedy fun there. Just don't walk east when you exit, and stay out of the alleyways. :)

Saw a video from CP-24 from overlooking taller building on Youtube showing fire starting as a small concentrated site in one corner, then gobs of smoke and flame in less than a minute. I know it is an old building, but the speed of propagation looked sorta fishy to me.

Likely a tarred roof?
I believe it was from what I remember being up there on break. Danced there for about all of 2 days- there were serious holes in the floor! So that was dangerous. Not to mention the guys blatantly asking for extras upon immediately getting upstairs...

Not surprising. The building itself dates back to the late 19th century--and was originally an undertaker’s.
