Going back to the theater?

Will you watch Christopher Nolan's Tenet in a theater?

That new Backrooms horror movie looks promising. I tend to enjoy A24 movies so it's got me quite interested.

Not bad but IMO nothing compares with the shootout scene in Heat (1995). Super realistic and you can cut the tension with a knife. (The whole movie is a masterpiece anyway)

Still can't believe they're making a Heat 2. There is absolutely no way it even comes close to being as good or even close to

I prefer to lounge on my couch while streaming on the big screen TV with added sound reinforcement. It beats sitting behind a tall guy in a theatre while the chatty couple behind you cough up loogeys. And I can pause at any time for snacks or a piss break.

Don't forget the people constantly checking their phone at max brightness lighting up half the entire theatre

nothing drives me up the wall more than watching a movie and then seeing a blinding flash as someone pulls out their phone with their pure white background

can you at least have a little common courtesy and make your background dark so its not as bright and takes people out of the movie

Can’t go to the theatre because even in vip you have idiots vaping and talking and hollering and cat calling and feet on seats. Young and old alike. It’s ghetto

Watching a movie in the theater is supposed to be a social, "communal" experience IMO. If the price to pay for it is having to deal with Tommy Texter or Sally Soundtrack now and then, so be it. If you're going to the cineplex expecting quiet time and complete immersion in the movie without external distractions, I'm afraid you got it backwards and would be better served by watching the movie alone at home indeed.

Here's my best movie theater memory ever:
* September 1999 - local release of The Phantom Menace (Star Wars Episode I) - 15 years in the making - an eternity for this lifelong Star Wars fan (before Disney era)
* First show at 2:00 PM. Sneakily left work along with my entire team (a whole department basically!), aiming to get to the box office around noon. No online ticketing back then and we were so sure that being so early we would snatch the best tickets in the house... just to find at least 200 other people in line when we got there!
* Who do we run into while walking to the back of the line, at this point having lost all hope of catching the first show? Our own boss which had left even earlier "to deal with some family issues" and "was counting on us to hold the fort"! VERY awkward moment for a few seconds... after which it was recognized on all sides that this was a cultural moment transcending all corporate hierarchies and boundaries. High fives all around... and our boss decides on the spot to buy all of us tickets and expenses them as a team event! We totally lucked out, he was about 1/4 of the way in the line, no way we would have gotten tickets to the first show without him...
* Anyway, we make it to the first show, popcorn in hand, get seated, and the movie begins. The 20th Century Fox jingle, then the Lucasfilm logo... No one knew what to expect, you could hear a pin drop... Then the Staw Wars crawl: INSTANT MADNESS, people hooting, hollering, I myself got goosebumps and tears in my eyes!
* Other memorable moments during the movie with similar reactions from the crowd: Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi dispatching the blockade droids; the Boonta Eve pod race (people were literally gripping the edge of their seats); the final fight between Darth Maul, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan (I swear to god, the cry of anger from the crowd when Qui-Gon died must have been heard outside of the building!)
* And this remembering would not be complete without a special mention to the most divisive character ever in the whole franchise, Jar Jar Binks: by the end of the movie, people in the front rows were throwing popcorn at the screen every time he'd appear!

Now you tell me, can you ever replicate these feelings in the comfort of your home theatre?

I didn't have time to launch sburra at Jar Jar Binks, The Phantom Menace put me to sleep.

Gladiator II is perhaps the sloppiest film ever made, Rusty wasn't happy. Funny thing about Our Pal Rusty, Nuremberg made money, Europe loved it, One battle after another did not.

The Critical Drinker doing what he does best, an editorial on an irrefutable classic. When Clint's middle name was God.

Unforgiven was shot near Lethbridge Alberta.

You’re the worst enforcer of ludicrous behaviour.
be civilized and stop normalizing main character energy.

yes you can replicate this in your own home if you have a family member or partner who is a vaper , smoker , adhd cocaine addict and never got told “no”
growing up and will become abusive and defensive if you dare ask them to be quiet and correct any disruptions.

It's like I was in that theater with you, that's exactly how I remember it too. The first note of that Anthem, and boom, instant tears and goosebumps.
