The movie The Five Heartbeats (1991) is a fictional biopic of several Motown artists, but most notably, The Dells. They are featured on the soundtrack including this jam with Billy Valentine
I just looked up Candi's bio. She's been married six times, including once to Clarence Carter. She was also briefly married to former MLB player Otis Nixon. That dude was an ugly mofo

i knew from her since the late60,s in to the early 70s...but only discovered this song many years later while shopping at Kopps Collectables on Queen ST....bought this single there and still have it................has Clarence Carter,s finger prints all over it
This is a jam. Been sampled several times in hip hop over the years. This one immediately comes to mind

I really dig her voice, its so unique and soulful. I also noticed she's done a few covers of Elvis songs over the years.
The Dells, best song imo, Oh What A Night. The movie The Five Heartbeats (1991) is a fictional biopic of several Motown artists, but most notably, The Dells. They are featured on the soundtrack including this jam with Billy Valentine

that Lyn Collins song is solidJames Brown aka Soul Brother #1 and his gang are undefeated. For me, without a shred of a doubt, they are the most important artists in the development of black music. They birthed the funk sound and they took rap/hip hop to the next level.
Bobby Byrd - "I Know You Got Soul"
Maceo & the Macks - "Cross the Tracks (We Better Go Back)"
The J.B.'s - "Pass the Peas"
Lyn Collins aka The Female Preacher - "Put It On the Line"
You're a lucky man X. You got to witness a musical God live in the flesh. I'm officially jealous.I first heard James & The Famous Flames at the U of Minnesota field house, New Year's Eve 1963, on a trip with my buddies there from Winnipeg.
I had never heard him before, as he got no airplay in Winnipeg. We arrived a bit into the set so I had no idea who they were.
The whole set was amazing, but this one killed me, with his voice, dancing, "cape and falling to the knees" choreography...
On Jan. 2nd I ran to a record store on Hennepin St in downtown Minneapolis,, asked the clerk who sang "Please, Please Please", and he directed me to the first "Live at the Apollo" LP, which I love to this day.
The ultimate version of that song is his performance at the televised T.A.M.I. Show, which I have on DVD, and is available on YouTube.
