i really like these simple performances. They make appreciate the later versions with more advanced production values.

Please share some too! Or stories of seeing an original, live performance.

You'll be sorry you asked. Here it goes(in no particular order):

1) Patio Lanterns by Kim Mitchell.
I was never the biggest fan of this song, although I do really like Kim Mitchell. One day he did an acoustic version on Q107 and I was hooked. The clip I've attached is not that specific performance but very close.

2) Even in the Quietest Moments by Roger Hodgson.
I love the group and I love the song. He did an acoustic version of it on Q107 and then the Mike Bullard show. Beautiful!!! I can't find video or audio of those performances, but here is something similar he did on Winnipeg radio.

3) Everlong by Dave Grohl.
Grohl did an acoustic version of this on the Howard Stern show about 20 years ago. Spellbinding.

4) Music in High Places by Collective Soul.
This was a whole dvd of Collective Soul performing acoustic versions of their songs in various locations in Morrocco. The dvd series was sponsered by Microsoft and produced incredibly well. It is one of my favourite music dvds. Here is my favourite cut, a song called Vent.

5) Resist by RUSH.
As the boys in RUSH got older they decided to have Geddy and Alex play a song with just the two of them after Neil's drum solo in concerts. The purpose was to give old Neil a chance to recover after one of his signature drum solos. The song they chose to play is called Resist. Although it's not one of their heavier songs they chose to do it acoustcally. Enjoy.

Sorry for hogging the thread.

Look up videos of Old Grey Whistle Test on Youtube, etc.
A 70's/80s BBC show where bands played live.
You can see real musicianship, with all the record production efforts stripped off.

I've got 3 seasons of this. My fave song is Edgar Winter doing Frankenstein. Amazing.
