My third post is more a neighborhood that a restaurant in itself, but it's such a fun experience!

My 3rd discovery goes to the Kensington Market in Toronto.

Wether you are with friends or families, walking through Kensington is a whole mood. We generally pick up something in every shop and we share everything together at the park. This is also something I did with @KittyCaterina once (the time you were befriending the pigeons lol)!

So where to go? I have not yet sample everything so this is post 1 of 2.

Ps: This is a great date idea for an extended date (wink)

1. Golden Patty

my oh my! Just perfect patties with the right amount of seasoning and meat. I need to go back soon!

2. Rasta Pasta

I don't have any pictures but my friends had the jerks and some lasagna. The jerks was just out of this world.

3. Via Mercanti

Just great pizza. The owner is very nice. Love the fact that you can sit on the patio and just watch people walk around.

They are pet friendly... I meant kids friendly!

4. Gus Tacos

There are a lot of competition in the tacos department in the market, but you go at Gus for the horchata. I think all the restaurants along Augusta makes great tacos!

Of course, before eating all this food you must....

I received a message for a recco so I guess I will put this one out and leave you alone until Saturday (It's Chotto Matte Saturday!)

My next one is "ritzy" ...again. Sorry! I'll do better on the next one! (No I will not lol but anyways...)

Restaurant: The Reign (Royal York)/Library Bar
Price: It's not that bad if you stay à la carte (duck is 46$). I went there for NYE and Valentine's Day so it was more expensive on NYE (300$ per person)
Ambiance : The reign: nice dark dinning room, tables are far from each other's.
Library Bar: not for a date lol you are litteraly sitting on each other's lap

Overall

Food: 10 (they had all my favs)
Ambiance: 7 (it's a chic restaurant. Ambiance is not so there)
Drinks: I stayed on the cocktail side and they were expensive (30$ +)

NYE:

Look at those honey combs!!!! ❤❤❤❤

VALENTINE'S DAY

My favorite. Duck and Foie Gras!

I would go back every week for that Foie Gras.

Saturday night was @Chloee ' s birthday so we decided to try something new. We decided to go at Chotto Matte to try their Peruvian fusion cuisine. Although it's not unusual to see asian/Peruvian fusion, I always sticked to the traditional Peruvian food. For those who doesn't already know, Slavery was abolished in Peru in 1851, which created high demand for cheaper labors. Lots of asian people moved to Peru to take advantage of the situation.
Fun fact:
"The country with the most notable population of people of Chinese descent is Peru, with over one million Chinese descendants, making up about 5 percent of the Peruvian population."

Let's dive into this, shall we?!

Restaurant: Chotto Matte
Location: 161 Bay St.
Price: We chose the Nikkei 1 Tasting menu (90$ each) with wine pairing (40 dollars each). However there is a ton of A la Carte under 30$ a plate.
Drink selection/wine selection: Great drinks selection and very happy to see most of them were under 20$.
Overall: 8
Great experience. The restaurant is gorgeous and service was impeccable. We had a few problems along the way and the portion were a bit deceiving at time but we really had a great time. There is also a dj mixing lounge music on Saturday evening.

Course 1: Ceviche paired with a dry Sparkling Wine.

I came mostly for the ceviche and this tiny, tiny plate was for us two! I would have also loved more choclos, better cooked sweet potatoes. BUT the ceviche itself tasted exactly like the real peruvian one. Kudos.

2.King Oyster Mushrooms and Anticuchos Tostada!

One of my highlight. However I should not have told Chloee anticuchos were beef hearts. Sets her back a bit 😅
1000016937.jpg

3. Piquante Fried Chicken

Wow! I will repeat as my main dish ...one day.
1000016938.jpg

4. Brussel Sprouts with balsamic glaze, feta ect.
Unfortunately they were undercooked super hard and bitter. Asked for more cooking, but they brought it back tasting the same. Bummer. The waiter sold it hard so that's probably why it was disappointing.
1000016940.jpg

5. Salmon with sweet potato puree (amazing)
1000016957.jpg

6. Chicken Teriyaki. I loved this plate as well. Lots of strong flavors! Coriander everywhere 🤤

1000016959.jpg

7. There was a sushi roll. No picture

Her birthday cake! A thousand crepe stacked on each other. It was sooooo good!

1000016968.jpg

Drinks!
Kakigōri
Ketel One vodka, aperitif, lychee, yuzu, raspberry (Frozen / Fruity / Floral)

1000016929.jpg

Bottom line I would go back again and again. Too many things I still want to try!

That carpaccio looks like it's made with bresaola (cured beef) which is ok but not real carpaccio. I expect better from the Royal York.

Toped with arugula - proper!

Bison. It was a bison Carpaccio. Horseradish, triple crunch mustard, avonlea cheddar, watercress and black truffle.

It was an excellent carpaccio. You are hating again

Is that what they told you, it doesn't look like bison to me. I wasn't there to taste it, you could be right. It still looks like bresaola to me. Not hating, just want you to get full value for your money.

It's what is written on the menu (first pic) and it did taste like it.

For the best "proper" carpaccio in town I would tell you to go at Blu Ristorante. Maybe you should try it so we could agree on something for once.

I would rather go to The Reign and taste the carpaccio myself. If it's bresaola I'll still eat it, I happen to enjoy beef salumi.

Unfortunately I'm not going anywhere for awhile. I'm fighting cancer, I don't travel beyond my neighbourhood.
