Ma should resign immediately ! If Carney gets a majority, and he can afford to turf Ma than he should and must. If Carney keeps Ma than the optics, for the floor crosser look bad in several dimensions.
On the other hand, many countries depend on China in various ways. The US is happy out of necessity to bank toll their treasury with Chinese funds as one example .

Looks like comrade Ma has issued the most sincerest of apologies. Seems like he mistook Xinjiang for Shenzhen. Clearly an honest mistake. Especially since Comrade Ma is born in Hong Kong which is merely 15 mins away from Shenzhen and famous for being the "tech hub" and China's first special economic zone established by Deng. Who wouldn't make that mistake with Xinjiang which is only 4000km away from HK.
Side note: Shenzhen has a massive migrant population with many workers coming from rural areas. Usually they go alone and will need to change their Hukou (household registration) and leave their families behind in their home cities. Most are paid substandard wages, and while a lot of companies do offer accomodations, food and healthcare, it is deducted from their wages leaving very little for their savings when they return back to the countryside once a year to visit their families for Chinese New Years. A shenzhen factory is basically slave labour as well. China's really got it figured out.
