It used to be that if I had a craving for some chicken nuggets/fries, I'd head over to McDonald's or Popeyes, and spend at least $12 for a meal.

No more.

This large bag of chicken strips costs only $9.99 at Walmart, and has probably 50 strips. That's 20 cents each.

I also got a large bag of crinkle cut fries for only $5.77. One portion is about 1/10, so about 57 cents.

Just pop them in the air fryer for 9 minutes, and they came out so delicious! Very crispy and flavorful, pair with your favorite sauce (barbecue for me).

Four strips (80 cents) plus fries (57 cents), means you can have a quick, delicious meal for only $1.37, 1/10 of what you would pay at a fast food place.

I would say that even on their own, they're at least as good as the fast food places, but because they are freshly air fried, they are even better.

Honestly, how did it taste? I buy chicken strips from M and M. A little to bready for me but the meat inside appears to be better quality than others.

Cripes there are healthier options.

I make different meal reps to freeze. Use my slow cooker to make soups, stews, and pasta sauce and then freeze and date them.

Also I will do a Ramen with lots of veg(celery, carrot, onion, mushroom, red pepper and the like) with a piece of leftover meat. Takes about the same time to make.

Honestly , really good.

The seasoning was on point, and were crispy outside snd tender inside.

McDonald’s is hit or miss, depending on how fresh the nuggets are.

And the crinkle cut fries in the air fryer came out great, crispy outside and fluffy inside.

To me, this isn’t like buying frozen pizza to save on delivery. The chicken strips and fries are actually better, fresher. and it’s so fast and convenient, at 1/10 the cost.

I try to minimize breaded fried foods, but I do enjoy breaded sole once a month. .For breaded items and egg rolls I put them in the micro wave for a minute before I put them in the air fryer. This speeds up the cooking time and the insides are not cold.

Are they cut strips of actual chicken breast (like Popeyes) or are they ground up chicken formed into strips (like McNuggets)

They are more like mcNuggets, made from white meat. They take over the leftover scraps and blend them together, and add seasoning.
So like the breaded hot dog of chicken offal.

Yeah... like, no thanks. 🤢

I do appreciate your sharing so don't let me discourage you... but I have tried various frozen chicken strips and the only one I like is the Baton Rouge tempura strips carried at Costco once in a while. But they leave so much oil in my air fryer that I feel sick knowing how much bad fat is still in the coating.

I got a brand new Presto Fry Daddy years ago and it is fantastic.

Takes 2 cups of oil, automatic thermostat set at 380F and a tight sealing lid so when you are done, you just let the oil cool off then put it in the freezer for next time. No risk of fire.

I use Sunflower or Grapeseed oil.

Make my own chicken strips by cutting the breast meat and dipping it in cornstarch, then Kikkoman tempura batter, or other batter mixes I might make up like beer batter. Or even just Panko breadcrumbs. I will set aside some batter for mixing in some chopped apples to make little apple fritters.

Also do chicken wings. 6 at a time.

I like the frozen krinkle cut fries too.

It is a perfect size and easy to clean up. I have a saucepan lid that I pop on when I drop the food in to minimize the initial splatter if there is any water in the food.

About once a week I microwave a frozen Compliments brand Penne Pollo and a Compliments Lasagna Alfredo dinner, both bought at Sobey's.

Add the bottle of "Real Canadian" spring water bought in a 24 pack from No Frills, and I have dined for less than $5.00!

No faster than eating it from McDs.
Exactly. This is a substitute for fast food meal for me, not a healthy meal I would normally have. Instead of McD's, it's a lot cheaper, faster, and just as good if not better. For me, it's totally worth it. Everyone is different.

I can't afford (psychologically) to shop at Sobey's, too expensive. Only Walmart for me. :(

If you have an Air fryer, why not just buy actual chicken breasts, dredge them and cook them in the air fryer?
Cheaper and healthier that way.
But not faster and more convenient.

If it’s two in the morning and I’m craving chicken strips and fries, it’s convenient to just pop to the frozen strips snd fries into the air fryer for ten minutes. I normally don’t have chicken on hand, and even if I did it would take time to batter, coat, and clean up.

Again, this is not about eating a regular meal healthy.

It’s about McDonald’s vs chicken strips and fries in the air fryer.

Fast food has become very expensive.

I’m saving ten dollars every time, twice a week, so $500 a year. Plus it’s way more convenient because I don’t have to drive and wait in line. Plus the food is hot and fresh, and tastes just as good.
