Rest of the world is in the same boat. What's your point?
Canada's unemployment rate hit 7.1% in August. We were at 6.5% at the beginning of this year. Here are the unemployment rates of our peers:Rest of the world is in the same boat. What's your point?
I wouldn't trust the US numbers at this point. But yes, we are in a shitty place, no doubt. I think some of those other nation's numbers are also going to get worse.Canada's unemployment rate hit 7.1% in August. We were at 6.5% at the beginning of this year. Here are the unemployment rates of our peers:
AUS 4.2% (4.1% Jan '25)
US 4.3% (4% Jan '25)
UK 4.7% (4.4% Jan '25)
EU 6.2% (5.8% Jan '25)
I wouldn't exactly call us in the same boat.
I would agree that the trend is negative however Canada is faring worse than the average. Why wouldn't you trust the US numbers any more or less than our numbers or the EU numbers?I wouldn't trust the US numbers at this point. But yes, we are in a shitty place, no doubt. As well looking at AUS they have a lower rate due to hours adjusting. Which means they are cutting hours. Not a bad choice as it keeps people afloat.
Judging from the turmoil in the UK I think they may be using bad numbers as well. Participation rates matter. If you stop counting people who give up looking(the US does this too) it pads the numbers.
As I keep saying. The world is going to get worse.
The numbers are the numbers. What’s your point?Rest of the world is in the same boat. What's your point?
You think the international student program has no effect on this? I think there is. Remember that program is to "study" after they graduate, no one seems to go back home...Rest of the world is in the same boat. What's your point?

Because Trump just fired the person for giving numbers he didn't like. As well there are different ways these things are calculated. And how reportage works from business.I would agree that the trend is negative however Canada is faring worse than the average. key word "being"...maybe unemployment drops when this is "resolved" then? And this is beyond tim hortons and fast food jobs...International student visas fo...
Seems that is being resolved.
It will help. As well his plans to build pipelines and refineries.key word "being"...maybe unemployment drops when this is "resolved" then? And this is beyond tim hortons and fast food jobs...
Lets all lie like this wasn’t 10 years in the making. The economy is slowing because Mango Mussolini is basically throwing a monkey wrench into the works. This is a global thing. And, I think we should all be able to agree that this would happen no matter who was the PM, Carney or Poilievre. Neither is able to stop Trump from being...well.....Trump, who is shortsighted and focused on the wrong things while inflation and an economic slowdown are on the cusp of overwhelming the US economy.
And, while @DesRicardo would love to be able to blame this on those damn immigrants, that is just not true. Canada, as we all should know, benefited by being on the border of the largest economy that had a hunger for our natural resources. Trump has upended that plan, and now we're forced to diversify our business. There is going to be some short and long-term pain here. But, it will hopefully make Canada stronger with a more diverse economy.
US GDP grew 3.3% in Q3Rest of the world is in the same boat. What's your point?
This contradicts everything that he wrote about in Value(s).It will help. As well his plans to build pipelines and refineries.
IMO whether the liberals like it or not...Carney has no other way than work with Trump...forget elbows up...it won't work to fight our biggest client...The real issue is productivity, this will keep Canada stagnant as they compete for exports. View attachment 481779
Why did you pick a chart from 2022?The real issue is productivity, this will keep Canada stagnant as they compete for exports. View attachment 481779
Now go ask how people, small business, real estate, are doing. That's great the tech companies are riding high. The USA is hollowing out.US GDP grew 3.3% in Q3
Change with the needs. This contradicts everything that he wrote about in Value(s).
