So I'm in the process of buying a condo in Miami area so I can get away from these dreaded Canadian winters.
And I'm thinking of getting a Nexus card to speed up the customs process.

My question is does anyone here on Terb have one??
And if so, is it worth getting it?
Does it really speed things up when you cross the border??

Thanks in advance for your help

I thought being Canadian is fast enough...man Miami is such a crazy lovely place...women are way hotter than LA...one thing hit me...LA has a lot of breast implants and facial surgeries...miami has a lot of butt implants...

It’s totally worth the time and expense to get a Nexus card - it’s a game changer.
But - you have to squeaky clean with your import limits - a hammer will come down on you if you’re caught exceeding limits or doing anything sketchy
Yeah, you have to come in for an interview.
I have no criminal record, just a lot of speeding tickets.
I hope they dont bring those up

How much does a Nexus card cost? is it a renewable thing or one time deal?

It's good for 5 years and I think it cost $150
not too bad, wonder what's the going rate for SP in Miami...heard they're expensive but if I can fuck someone that looks like Sofia Vergara...i'd probably empty my pockets.

You can exceed your limits as long as you declare everything.

Interview for me was like 30 min - did it at the Pearson Airport and it was all through work - so everything was work related - how long have you been with the company, any desire to move to the US (which I found odd to ask - because I said no desire - love my country), what is your role at the company etc. Pretty basic. All in all - nothing to worry about - questions were easy.

I've had Nexus for 10 years. The US interviewer is going to grill you more than the Canadian will. Still not too bad.

Before trade issues I was going over the border about once a month. In the Falls Nexus card memebes get to use a bridge designated as Nexus only that is a 5 minute drive from the Rainbow Bridge(Whirlpool Bridge). I've never gone over where theres been more than 5 cars in front of me

Great for flying too. Better out of Toronto than American cities. There''s a shitload of Americans with Nexus cards.

I renewed earlier this year and had my new card 3 weeks after I applied

I had one but let it expire as we hardly travel any more. The interview was painless for us retired people, it was basically to show up to prove we existed and collect our finger prints and iris scan. I believe they now use facial recognition. The one time I used the card was coming back into Canada at Pearson, the scanner wouldn't scan my card so I had to talk to an agent anyway.

I let mine expired.

Do you have to show up with your expired nexus card at the border even if you are not going to use it?

If your card is expired it's of no value. You can have it with you but no use to show, just like using an expired passport is useless to use. But keep it only if you're going to re-apply if there's any info they need from that card when you re-apply.
