What a game by Bieber last night. If he continues to pitch like that, he'll be starting the first game for the Jays in the playoffs. https://www.tsn.ca/mlb/shane-bieber...oronto-blue-jays-beat-miami-marlins-1.2349422
What @tml said. I cant get super excited until I see how he pitches against a top hitting team.

Best scenario is if Sox and Yankees split their series 2-2.
NY media is already freaking out that Yankees lost 2 in a row :D

It's not just that the Yanks are losing, but HOW they are losing. Last night was a 1-0 loss. Before that they had 4 errors and 9 walks in one game.

Keep in mind that if the Jays don't tank in the post season, Atkins and Shapiro will not only not be sent packing, they'll be given multi-year contract extensions.

If Bieber is healthy after the season ends, there's no way that he'll play in 2026 for the $16 Million option amount. That doesn't necessarily mean that he'll leave town, but it does mean that he'll take the buyout before re-negotiating.

Here is a list of starting pitchers being paid, (but not necessarily earning), 2025 salaries in the $16 million/ year range, with their 2025 Won-Lost record and ERA:

Frankie Montas NYM $17M (3-2; 6.28)
Taijuan Walker PHI $18M (4-6; 3.44)
Max Fried NYY $14.5M ($31.5M in 2027-33) (13-5; 3.14)
Max Scherzer TOR $15M (4-2; 3.60)
Jameson Taillon CHC $18M (8-6; 4.26)
Lance McCullers HOU $17.7M (2-4; 6.89) Did not pitch in 2023-24.
Justin Verlander SF $15M (1-10; 4.68)
Charlie Morton DET $15M (9-10; 5.09)
Michael Wacha KC $18M (8-9; 3.34)
Seth Lugo KC $15M (8-6; 3.73)
Miles Mikolas STL $17.7M (6-10; 5.17)
Mitch Keller PIT $15.4M (5-12; 4.34)
Kyle Freeland COL $16M (3-12; 5.16)
Sandy Alcantara MIA $17.3M (7-11; 6.04)

As a two time All Star and a former Cy Young Award winner, Bieber would expect to be paid significantly more than this lot, and with more years guaranteed. Max Fried is on this list only because his big raise doesn't kick in until 2027.

Cringeworthy relief efforts from Varland and Hoffman, Jays lucky to win that game. Entertaining though.
Of note: The Blue Jays are the only MLB team in the modern era (since 1900) to blow a lead in the ninth, 10th and 11th innings but still win the game.

Poilievre JR, has gotten fat, he used to be in the 80th %-tile in running speed , now he is in the 20th-tile.
He is 26.2 in rumming speed, Vladdy is faster than him at 26.8
His big butt has slowed him down, We can call him "BiG Dumper Jr." His offensive numbers are still great even with weight gain.

Jays need to sign him with a huge contract in off season, even though he is a whiny bitch.

So the story is Santander is coming back for September? That's going to be interesting. What are they going to do with him and where will he play and how will they make room? Although the overall stats are not very imposing, it doesn't really account for clutch hitting, clutch production and clutch situations. It's definitely debatable to remove Straw or Schneider to make room for Santander. Who would've ever thought at the beginning of the season the Blue Jays would be in this situation of having a great season like this. The perfect cocktail of journeymen that were not talented enough to secure a spot elsewhere are finally having a chance to prove themselves and really driving the team chemistry, and the team identity. And George Springer is a leader with an incredible bounce back season.

I just came back from Los Angeles and I watched game 2 on Saturday against the Dodgers. The Blue Jays got killed, but still a great experience. As always, I love the Dodgers and my family in the organization saved me a Teoscar Hernandez bobble head from his bobble head night weeks ago. Lol

I assume he gets eased in and plays a little bit but not much more unless he rakes in the minors and his starts -- perhaps more starts at the end if they clinch a bye with say 4 or 5 games to go.

Santander could have a role starting vs Left Handed Pitchers.
Versus Right-handers its tougher for him to break in to the lineup with Barger and Lukes around.

---Jays currently have 4 players in the top 10 of American League batting average leaders.
---the National League currently has only one player with a batting average of over .300. Freddy Freeman is hitting .302.
---Something strange happening at CP24. They are still posting baseball scores from Saturday.

How perfect is the Sopranos reference in this Blue Jays thread? That's so funny, I'm actually currently binge watching the Sopranos for like the sixth time. Greatest show of all time next to breaking bad, three's company and 90s Melrose Place.

Looking further into Santander. He's not going to really contribute to this team for most of September... its about assessing whether he can get good enough to earn a post-season spot, and building back his confidence for 2026, so he doesn't enter next spring having not played in a long time.

I assume he is going to go down for close to the full 20 day rehab that the team is permitted to send him on before his re-call. Probably a handful of games in Florida A Ball, then a few weeks in AAA. He's not ready to hit immediately at the Major League Level, and Loperfido has earned the 14th spot on the roster when the hitter roster expands by 1.

If he mashes at the end of his rehab, they will find a way to get him on the roster, and get him in some games the final 10-12 of the season. If he struggles in the back end of his re-hab he might not even see the roster this year.

I wouldn't count on him really contributing this year, but there is a path for him to get to the post-season if he hits well.
