Got my bicycle stolen, then stole it back 4 days later.

This isn't in Toronto. I had it locked up outside with a dollar store lock and figured it would eventually get stolen, it did overnight this past weekend although it took 2 months to get stolen. Yesterday I saw it locked up downtown and sure enough some meth head eventually showed up. I said cops were on the way so she unlocked and took off.

I should have had a thick chain and proper lock all along, something you'd need a grinder for and not bolt cutters. Junkies wouldn't go that far to steal it, welcome home.

had my bike stolen with a bolt cutter...it was a nice but old Giant bike...i think I bought it $499 brand new...which was expensive back then. Great bikes are now at $1500 or more...i don't pedal to go to store where I have to chain it...i only pedal leisurely...Gravel bikes are fun.

as for the grinder,, you would be surprised what a little battery operated grinder can be used for to steel a couple of hundred dollor bikes

You need 2 bikes, the nice one for the leisurely rides, the the crapper for locking up and not minding if it goes "missing"
I have also noticed in the burbs there is no where to lock up your bike even if you wanted to ride to the store

La la land
My neighbor bicycle got stolen from the day care centre she works. We think it was an inside job. Meaning one of her co-workers must sent someone out to steal it.

Why would anyone think that it was an inside job. Was it in a locked room accessible only by someone with proper access.

I use two locks unless it's a very public setting, like a farmers market or such. It's an E bike so I also take the key. I would never leave a bike out overnight or for an extended period daytime.

That’s exactly what my bike enthusiasts friends recommended. One beater bike for errands and one good bike when you really wanna go for long rides. Sucks that Toronto is like this 😔

Junkies have nothing to do all day, you'd be surprised who's watching and how brazen they are. They don't care about a criminal record.

Maybe it's time we adopt sharia law??

Steal a bike and get your hands chopped off

An inside job would mean a coworker, in a day care center no less, who is a bike thief with an accomplice that is adept at stealing bikes. Just think about that for a moment. Could be but more likely bike thieves are just prowling and found an unlocked gate. Don't know why you bothered to show youtube video of a bike thief that wasn't an inside job. I was expecting to see the contractors in on it but they were the ones that chased down the thief. Things get stolen on people's properties. This is nothing new. Once upon a time baby strollers in the Beaches are were being stolen left unattended on porches. Even on personal property I would never leave a bike unattended and unlocked.

I lock up my bike with three moderately priced locks, I think it might be better than one $150-200 high end locks, and always where there are people walking around. I also have identification numbers sand blasted on several parts of the bike. I have never had a bike stolen.

Interesting strategy with three bike locks. Can you elaborate on the type of locks you use, and where/how you lock your bike with them?
Thx

I use very common Canadian Tire locks, If you have several the bike thieves will go elsewhere. they want to spend as little time and effort to snag a bike. Thin cable locks are little protection unless the steel cable ( not the plastic ) is 3/8 in. thick or more. On my new electric bike I have GPS stickers on the battery. As far as where to lock the bike, just find a street corner where there is constant people walking around.

At this time of year you may find the bike stores selling off their out of season items, like cable locks. Even the big box hardware store have some locks suitable for locking up bikes.
