This has been a HUGE impediment for me. I have tried to book many providers through e-mail and either got ghosted or received rude responses such as "Get a phone". Realistically I think my success rate is 1 out of 20. There are many providers missing out on potential business. What’s your favourite way to contact a MA/SP/Dom to set up a date?
This is 2025. I don't think they're missing out on that many people.Don't they realize many people don't have cell phones?
I just use text now. You can switch the number whenever you want for free or lock it in for a pretty cheap price.I voted Twitter/X, however I would also use an encrypted email. I'd like to use that more, as I don't believe X is all that secure. Privacy is important to me. I used to use a textapp but lost the number last year and can't get a new one with that app.
@Nesbot Any leads on a good text app?
Texting. Simple, easy and practical, gets the job done. I have never had a Twitter (X) account. Most sps prefer not to receive phone calls. What’s your favourite way to contact a MA/SP/Dom to set up a date?
I personally will book via email only, but require a deposit or some form of verification like a longterm TERB handle. This has been a HUGE impediment for me. I would love to know why this is an issue. I don't have a cell phone, so I can't text. I prefer not to make phone calls on my families land line for reasons that should be obvious. I do use Bluesky but there are no Kingston based providers on there. Ottawa is hip to it though.
What is the issue with responding to an e-mail, or not providing an e-mail at all. Don't they realize many people don't have cell phones?
I'd love to know the answer to this.
You're on point!Great thread Nadia.
I find email is best. It’s secure, messages are always delivered.
Also from a provider’s POV - 9/10 times an inquiry I receive via email follows through with a booking. The client has actually made the effort to do their due diligence, read through my website and engage respectfully.
It’s my opinion, but email forces clients to be thoughtful and intentional. They aren’t chasing the instant gratification/dopamine fix that a quick text can bring.
If I do receive a text inquiry, usually it’s “Hey …” Or “Are you available?” no information to go off of, very insincere and time wasting types of communicators. And a lot of attention seekers looking for an instant response.
Text apps can also be notoriously unreliable. I recently just lost the number I had since 2018
I’ll use WhatsApp, but typically only to communicate with regular clients, but now I may need a new number to keep that WhatsApp account active.
So, in short, I believe email is best! Filters out better clients, provides more security/reliability.
Also cuts down on the admin time so you don’t have a 30+ minute back and forth trying to get all the details of a booking sorted out over text.
My only complaint about emails (but this could happen through text too) are the clients who wait too long to respond. Yes it’s a bit slower paced communication but timing is everything. You wait just a few hours or a day and my availability has probably changed.
Just a friendly reminder to clients: if you inquire about a date, then be prepared to book and lock that date in.
