If ANYONE has earned the right I'd say it's Newey! He most likely has a car design in mind that Lance can't drive.
But yeah... nepotism will kill Aston form ever being contenders.
You would think sponsors would put pressure on the old man to get rid of his son.

Not surprising if you know “the old man”.

Any sponsor who suggests turfing his son would have their logos moved to the port-a-potty ! 😜

Mark Hughes of Motorsport Magazine had great things to say about new Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli:

Full article, from September, 2024:

Antonelli excerpt:

Last Friday at Monza, Andrea Kimi Antonelli made his first appearance in an official F1 weekend, driving George Russell’s Mercedes in FP1. It was a brief but spectacular performance from the 18-year-old. He went to the top of the timesheets on his first flying lap, pitted to allow the tyres to cool, then went out for a second attack lap. James Allison, observing the way Antonelli had his outside front wheel almost on the grass on the approach to the first chicane said to Toto Wolff, “We need to have a conversation with him about the difference between FP1 and Q3.”

He was hustling the car super-hard, late braking and not only using all the track on entry and exit but flicking the car in with incredible precision and commitment. Go in-car with him and it’s a blur of no-margin braking points, clipped apexes and aggressively early power applications. His speed into the fast Ascari chicane is breathtaking – and literally the fastest anyone took it all weekend. He went through there at 190km/h (118mph). By the end of the session, the second-fastest speed through there was Lando Norris at 179km/h (111mph).

He’d also been way faster than anyone through the preceding Lesmo 2. By the time he arrived at the Parabolica approach, the outside left-tyres were over-temperature. This would normally have been manifest with a little wobble perhaps. But such was the outrageously late braking he took into there, they simply surrendered immediately – and spun him hard into barriers. Session over after one-and-a-bit flying laps, car extensively damaged.

***************************************************

When Gilles Villeneuve made his F1 debut for McLaren at the 1977 British Grand Prix, (Silverstone), driving a 1976 M23, many of the spectators watching practice believed he would never race in F1 again, because he kept spinning out in fast corners.

What they didn't know was that Villeneuve, having never driven an F1 car before, was testing the limits of the car, braking later and later with each practice lap. When the car spun out, he knew its limit.

Villeneuve then led the timesheet in prequalifying, and qualified 9th, two tenths ahead of McLaren Works driver Jochen Mass in the then new M26, and more than seven tenths faster than American Brett Lunger, who was also in an M23, driving for Chesterfield Racing.

At that time in F1, teams were not restricted to two driver entries for Grands Prix, and it was a common practice for the top teams using Cosworth engines to sell their older chassis to small teams. There were 36 cars entered in the 1977 British Grand Prix, of which eight of fourteen advanced from prequalifying, and 26 of the 30 cars in qualifying made the starting grid on race day.

By 2030, Ferrari drivers will be Oliver Bearman and Kimi Antonelli. Bearman is driving for Haas in 2025.

Will Lance Stroll finally put aside the turdnadoes and win the Driver's Championship?

He doesn't turn 20 until August.

This is my all time favorite overtaking manoeuvre, Stefan Bellof passing Rene Arnoux at Mirabeau, 1984 Monaco Grand Prix. Nobody tries to pass there in dry condition, yet alone during torrential rain which stopped the race just after half distance. Bellof had two wheels over the curbing.

Watch the full race here.

That is a bittersweet clip Ono, Arnoux was Gilles Villeneuve's team-mate, Bellof had a lethal crash at Spa a year later.

This is The Mighty Lance Stroll's year to win the Driver's Championship, Adrian Newey has made his intentions clear.

Arnoux and Villeneuve were not team-mates, per se. They had an epic battle for second place at the 1979 French Grand Prix,

Gilles-Villeneuve-Ferrari-Rene-Arnoux-Renault-French-GP-F1-1979-Dijon-Photo-Renault.jpg

and Rene joined Ferrari in 1983, the season after Gilles' death. He replaced Didier Pironi, after Mario Andretti, who drove the 28 car for the last two rounds of the 1982 season. I was at the 1983 Canadian Grand Prix, when Arnoux won his first race for the Scuderia.

Like Gilles, Stefan Bellof was 'stupidly brave'.

In 1984, Bellof set the unofficial lap record in qualifying at the 'old Nurburgring' in a Porshe 956,

(6:11:13), five seconds faster than anyone else, and his fastest lap in the 1,000 Km race, (6:25:91) is still the official fastest lap ever on that circuit, in any car.

That battle was one of my all time favourites. I don’t remember the exact race but close the the end of his career I also saw Arnoux drive like a complete fuck head a lap or two down and doing everything he could to get in the way of every other driver on the track.

2025 Aston Martin car
Too bad it can't perform as good as it looks.

100%, Newey won’t have had a major influence on this car but will have improved it, with pretty much a clean slate next year anything is possible. New regs always bring some surprises but a lot will depend on who get their new powertrain sorted right out of the box. Last time Honda was a disaster for 2 or 3 years.

Even though I'm a Ferrari tifosi for life, I wouldn't mind seeing Oscar Hot Mess winning the Driver's Championship.

Ollie doesn't become and adult until May, his cooking horrifies me. And Carlos isn't around to teach him. :(

I'm really looking forward to this season.
I think Carlos and Alex are a formidable pair and can do some great things (if they get a competitive car... I know.. .big IF...but still)
I think Liam and Max will be the next Lewis and Nico! They could be 1 and 2 but will crash each other out! (I say this as a redbull fan) lol
But I think Oscar will quietly take race after race. I think he's a great driver!

Let's hear some other predictions!

Aston Martin, Ferrari, Alpine, Hass won't improve at all.
George will win the odd race.
McLaren will repeat as Constructors Champion.
Drivers Champion will be Oscar.
