BREAKING: President Trump has fired USAID’s inspector general Paul Martin via an email, just one day after the office released a report critical of the administration’s efforts to weaken the agency.

Removing an IG immediately after a critical report undermines that independence and sends a chilling message to other oversight officials: challenge the administration, and you may lose your job. Actions like this erode trust in government institutions and set a dangerous precedent for retaliatory firings against those tasked with holding power accountable.

In which case, it plays into the mid terms and adds to the controversy that Trump has to deal with.

Assuming that the mid terms happen?
I expect there will be midterms.
It is very possible they are impossible for the GOP to lose, though.

🚨
‼️
JUST IN: President Trump commends Elon, announces a news conference set for TOMORROW — — will read list of names of recipients of waste, fraud and abuse. "I'm going to read to you some of the names that hundreds of millions and even billions of dollars have been given to." “I say it in front of our our attorney general. There's no chance that there's not kickbacks or something going on. When you give millions and millions of dollars to somebody that stands to look at something for 15 minutes and walks away with millions of dollars. That money's coming back in some form. And that's only one form of corruption." "I went through a list of 200 expenditures that were made, and I found three that looked like they were reasonable. Okay, three and, we'll be talking about that tomorrow." "I want to commend Elon. He doesn't need this. You know, he's abused by you people every day. He's found more things than anybody could find."

The sheer goofiness about a fundamental constitutional battle over this half-assed shit boggles the mind. I can understand a battle over a weighty moral issue like slavery vs the fact that slavery was the underpinning of the seceding states' economy. But this is goofus about a senile old fuck doing an inept, unscheduled audit and randomly striking out funding and then being too egotistical to accept the constitutional norm of taking guidance from the court.
It makes more sense to me that it would be about something goofy.
The point here is the power struggle.

If you don't have an issue to believe in, then it is just about whether or not you have the ability to seize power and reset the balance.
If you are challenging the constitutional order for a moral principle then the moral principle might get resolved, defusing the challenge.
Why would you confuse the issue by making it about some kind of higher principle that might hamstring you that way?

But it's nuts.

Madison v Marshall is bedrock US constitution, as is the principle that the judiciary interprets the law and the executive accedes to that interpretation.

You can't go anywhere challenging that. You simply end up with a stars-and-stripes version of Russia or Hungary.

Trump doesn't have the popular support to take it anywhere. There will be backlash and his balance of support in Congress and in popular voting support is small. If he does overturn the republic and make himself King Trump, how long does that shit last before the backlash overwhelms him????

If you have a crisis - i.e. the economic collapse of Germany in the 1930's - you can present yourself as a necessary saviour. But you need the crisis and an ideology to focus and rally support.

NEW: The First Circuit Court of Appeals, led by Chief Judge David Barron, has denied Donald Trump's motion to block a circuit court order forcing the Administration to lift their federal spending freeze.

RETWEET to thank Judge Barron for standing up for the Constitution!
Trying to figure out if that Charlie Kirk tweet is a misrepresentation of this order or not.

It does look like this lawsuit (https://legacy.www.documentcloud.org/documents/25521965-250212-ig-suit/) is pointing out that Trump fired the Inspector Generals who had uncovered ~200 billion in fraud over the last several years.
So it seems Trump and Musk are getting rid of the people who can actually do the job DOGE is pretending to do, because that might get in the way of the lies they want to tell about what DOGE is doing in order to cover up what DOGE is doing.
