Concern about past escort booking cancellation

About 10 months ago, I contacted an escort and arranged a meeting at a hotel. When I arrived, I waited in the lobby for about 10 mins, but then I was told that the appointment was canceled. I left immediately and have had no further contact.

I'm wondering if there's any chance I could face legal trouble in the future. Should I be concerned, or am I overthinking this? BTW I was texting her using my own phone....

am I overthinking this?
Yes. Yes you are.

Neither texting, nor going to a hotel lobby, deciding not to see a guest / having a guest cancel a visit, and then going home is a crime. After this long it shouldn't even be a thought.

I don't know why you would even think this was some sort of crime.

If it's been close to a year and nothing has happened, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

In practice, the police are not interested in pursuing charges for two adults engaging in consensual activity.

The focus for enforcement is combating human trafficking of girls and women; as long as you resolve to stay away from action in certain seedy motels off the QEW and 401, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Get your affairs in order and say goodbye to your loved ones. You're about to spend the rest of your days in prison.

Seriously though, how do you think this could possibly play out? How on earth could the situation you described lead to the cops arresting you?

You’re looking at three months jail for contacting the escort and six months jail for leaving too quickly. With good behavior, you can hope for an early parole.

What did you do wrong that you could be charged for? Nothing!! You went to a hotel, confirmed you were there, waited in the lobby and your appointment was cancelled. That you used your phone, so what. SPs get endless txts daily so you're just a cancelled number to them replaced by other numbers that same day or the next day. Just move on to your next adventure.

Overthinking ^ 10

While your actions (communicating for the purpose of…) were technically illegal, zero chance you are going to have any consequences. As others have said, most of the laws are not enforced unless trafficking is involved. If the cops wanted to track down and arrest every guy who texted an escort, they’d have about a hundred thousand investigations going on. If you are worried that this might have been a “sting” operation, the only time LE has done this is, again, when underage or trafficking is suspected. Our police dont have the resources to investigate and prosecute real crimes that have been committed (actual car thefts / carjackings, assaults…). Your actions would be about as interesting to them as if you had jaywalked.

Unless you were offering to pay people for sex in the hotel lobby, you didn't procure, or successfully manage to purchase, anything. Beyond that, if this was a sting (it wasn't) you were only looking to rent some human companionship.

It never hurts to be a little circumspect with your communications, especially with an unknown agency or provider. However, if anything ever came of it stick to being polite, and "I was only looking for companionship.", then STFU. In the extremely unlikely event you got charged, as opposed to just a scare talk, STFU and get a lawyer.

Not that you should worry. Local law enforcement is only concerned with complaints, minors, trafficking, direct abuse, hard drugs in quantity, and guns. Avoid knowingly being around those things and you'll be fine.

He wasn't there's no proof. To charge someone with purchasing sex you either have to catch them in the act of exchanging money or the receiver has to admit they received money. Sitting in the lobby of a hotel for ten min. doesn't even remotely constitute any crime besides the copes have much better things to do that's why sexual services are so readily available in Canada

Come on take it easy on him. He’s just a rookie.
It's literally been bugging him since a few days after he made his user account. ;) A few days for research and then a cancellation?

You know what might help him take his mind off things? He should see an escort.

I mean, maybe if you go to the police and show them that you talked with an escort and went to see her and give yourself in for the crimes involved maybe yeah

Hard to believe how long this thread is still going on...

The OP's question was fully and accurately answered in the first few replies.
