I think marriage is a life-changing experience for most men and those are usually with civvies.

In the OPs case, meeting this escort clearly was a life-changing experience. I have a similar story, and while I wouldn't say my first SP 3 1/2 years ago was a life-changing experience, hobbying in general has been a life-changing experience. When you go from being miserable every day to being happy, I'd call that life-changing.
