Oct 7 happened solely because Hamas was unhappy with the status quo and decided that war and suffering would be better.
You tell me because Hamas ordered hostages to be killed rather than rescued.
Of course we could talk about the morality of holding the elderly and toddlers hostage in the first place, not for any actions they committed but simply because they were Jews hamas was able to get hold of.

Well of course they are gonna say that, yet several were rescued and several escaped only to be shot by the IDF. Holding the toddlers with their mothers hostage and the elderly is IMHO far less immoral then shooting them in the head, blowing them to bits, burning them alive, starving them to death, allowing them to freeze to death, blowing of their little limbs, causing them to endure surgury without anesthesia. etc etc. Don't you agree?
It was a battle within a war. We all know its not the last one, maybe the another 30-40 more or so? The Israelis said the goal is to wipe out Hamas, and Hamas seems pretty un wiped out. In fact Hamas inflicted some very significant losses on the IDF and the put the Palestnian issue on the world map. As of today Israels repuatation is in tatters, it looks vulnerable, economy badly damaged, global boycott and leaders charged by the ICC. I think thats definitely a win.
