Legal immigration numbers in the US are highly controlled already.That became crystal clear to voters over the last couple years. As in Canada, U.S. voters want the numbers to be controlled. They want assimilation and economically sustainable immigration.
I and other Americans would probably be satisfied with the pre-Trudeau Canadian immigration system.
So I doubt MAGA's intentions when they want mass deportations of illegals while decrying H1B visas because "they are taking our jobs".
Trump's anti-immigration policies are fueled by ethno-cultural reasons which is why there are assumptions that immigrants do not "assimilate" (unclear what that actually means).
As for Canada, Trudeau's permanent immigration program was/is really good.
His error was in expanding the TFW program which I think should be terminated.
PS: I think discussions of the American and Canadian immigration systems should be kept separate. The issues are different.
