Another big point is that AI can't critically think/create new solutions to new problems. It can only extrapolate from past date.
That's pretty much how most humans solve most problems. The short bursts of creativity are few and far between.

I disagree. You can find creativity daily. Now if you are talking about highly disruptive/revolutionary ideas, sure those are rare but they require long processes of tinkering...but humans have to respond to stressors/stimulus, which AI cannot/does not currently. Anyone who knows a particular area well knows that AI really isn't that great currently. If I need something translated or want a basic summary, then I'll use AI for those types of tasks...but anything forward looking, forget-about-it.

But AI is developing so fast. Many things it cannot do today and you don't imagine it to be able to do so soon will suddenly be able to do in about one year.

I disagree. The things people in my industry were worried about AI taking over 10 years ago have not come to fruition. People give AI much more credit than is due. Scientists still haven't got a clue how the human brain works, let alone intelligence. The so called general AI people are worried about certainly is not coming anytime soon.

Red toilets? That's innovation right there.

Got a pizza from an ATM machine type box the other day. Wasnt burnt like my local dominos.
I love going to timmys and using that touch screen thing (mcdonalds too). They still get my order wrong but only half as much. Weve had coffee machines since the 70s. They should fully automate Timmys and then my order will always be correct.
Im all for AI taking over these jobs.
I will still go to the small mom and pop coffee shops where you can actually have a chat with the owners/staff - but the big franchises where they wont talk to you - might as well be automated so they can get the order right.

I think the key to not losing your job to AI is to be in a very customer centric industry - but it is getting harder to find them.

Theres an old saying (from the 80s I believe) that the factory of the future will be run by one man and a dog. The dog will be there to stop the man from touching the machine - the man will be there to feed the dog!

I have to say, Dominos just can't seem to get it right. I order online and if I say "regular bake" ir comes out burnt. If I say "light bake" it doughy and the cheese is hardly melted. I can't imagine what a pizza would look like if I clicked the "well done" option.

Click well done and the shop burns down

I disagree. What is Creativity? It is basically using past experience (what works/what doesn’t) to solve a current problem. The problem is that a person only has a limited amount of past experiences to draw from. One person’s creative solution may be ineffective or borderline moronic compared to a best in class solution. Fully trained AI does not have that limitation. People who think they are irreplaceable by AI are truly legends in their own mind. AI is moving really fast. Example is my Tesla where 2 years ago FSD was a piece of shit. Today, I use it everyday for 90% of my drive. Each update sees the car make better decisions and I expect unsupervised FSD to be a real thing in the next 5-10 years.

AI and automation in general is a bit of a mixed bag.
Been using AI a bit at work and yes its great but it does make mistakes and ultimately a person is responsible. Also the mistakes it makes can be hard to spot.
I can see a big hit to white collar jobs so, interesting times ahead.

It doesn't really matter if it's good or bad. The fact is, it's here. If you regulate it in the West, you can be damn sure China will make use of it to gain a competitive advantage, working cheaper, faster and with less mistakes once dialed in. We have to adapt as a society rather than push back.

Even before AI, we were trending towards a situation where a UBI of some sort was necessary, brought on by a mixture of tech improvements and global trade. I'm personally against a merit-less UBI, because I believe it leads to many societal problems, but ultimately I think we're going to need something.

I consider my job relatively safe from AI. It's niche enough that it has already avoided automation, but it's still of a hands-on and real world problem-solving nature, which at least is resistant to AI. But you never know. As recently as a couple years ago, I never thought AI would be able to replace writers, artists, and other creative pursuits, but I believe I was wrong about that now. But right now, I'd be very nervous if I were a bookkeeper, accountant, or even a lawyer. AI is set to be VERY disruptive.

Ultimately, AI has the power to drastically improve humanity's standard of living. But it also has the potential to be significantly abused. As with any major tech disruption, there will be winners and losers.

We can agree to disagree. The limitations of AI are VERY obvious to anyone with high domain specific knowledge. I've tried to use AI to do even some of the more routine and basic tasks I do day-to-day and it is not that great, and certainly doesn't save me a lot of time. For basic admin tasks, sure, it can be great. But it's not going to take over highly creative based industries any time soon. Even something as "basic" as comedy, AI is not good with. The experience of seeing someone live and on stage won't be replaced by a robot.

Passing an exam and practicing medicine are VERY different. No different from passing the bar exam and practicing law.
That is true. That is why AI will be used extensively in medicine in future years because it will be able to research much faster then a doctor as to what treatment guidelines should be followed, or will be able to diagnose different possibility of disease much faster.

It will also be used a lot in the juridic system as what can be faster to find jurisprudence then an AI bot tool?

I do not see AI replacing the practice of a doctor but I see it to enable doctors to see much more patients.

AI will definitely help innovate the WAY doctors and lawyers work, but they certainty won't be replacing them any time soon. I don't think this point is even contentious, everyone knows it's here/on the way in....it's the fear mongering about AI going to replace everyone's jobs that is not justified. The types of jobs available now are way different from 20+ years ago. The types of jobs people can do will continue to evolve.
