Heard The Cars on the car radio this afternoon. What a great first album. Reminded me of listening to it in my quaint apartment on St. John's Road and Runnymede back in 1980. Happiest of times for me. Managed to break away from a relationship with an emotional vampire that lasted almost two years. Feeling free and although 30, still feeling youngish with a whole life to look forward to. Had a steady little job and a place to live. No car at that time, but who cares? Transit was easy. This was the sound track of 1980 for me. What was that old song? Foreigner? Back on my feet again? Felt like that. Along with Van Halen and the top other two Boston bands. Boston and Aerosmith. Something in the water of the Charles River at that time.

Yeah, the first two albums were great. Not too crazy about their 80s stuff except for maybe Touch and Go which was on the radio at the Esso station I was working at during high school.

For me the "best of times" was in the early to late 70's when I moved from Winnipeg to Montreal.

Mid 20's to early 30's in age, and right the start of the disco club era in one of the best cities for it.

Single, pre-AIDS and therefore usually bbfs with civilians. No need for mpa's or sp's.

Had a good job, money was not a problem, and only answerable to myself.

Those were the days, my friend,

I thought they'd never end,

But they did

I was too young to fully enjoy that period. Much better for young men than the 1980s. Kind of a surreal period in some ways with the baby boom.
I remember coming home from grade school in the mid 70s and no one was home except for the cops and everything was a mess as they were looking for drugs(older brother).
They asked me about the piranhas.

Same time frame when I moved from Calgary to Toronto. Although my life was what most people would call "losing", I was so glad of those couple of years where I felt like I wasn't taking the self induced shit kicking that was the norm for me. A respite, if you will.
Gordon Lightfoot. "Sometimes I think it's a sin when you feel like you're winning when you're losing again".

Its on my list of vinyl to acquire. Excellent album, all killer no filler.
And every time I hear "Moving in Stereo" I envision the lovely Phoebe Cates and everything is just right in the world.
