Yup. Hurts like hell and sucks.

Try not to irritate it, sandals if you’re able. No red meats, alcohol, shellfish. Take 3xAleve pills twice daily for a few days to bring down inflammation. Try and see what you can do for diet and lifestyle change to decrease purines. If this becomes more common, see doctor and get bloodwork done.

Old age thing for me. All the above mentioned culprits. Booze. Red Meat. Went to emergency once at 3.00 am because I couldn't sleep. Throbbing pain. Got a prescription a while ago, but can't find the bottle or I'd tell you. Your doctor should be able to prescribe something specific.

Been there. Done that.

See your doc. There are prescription meds.
Definitely see a doctor. Get a proper diagnosis (I’m sure there are many other things that can cause a swollen painful big toe that you have not thought of, nor has Dr Google) and get proper treatment.

I think there's meds for that...to even stop it from flaring.. my friend has it and he said it's a bitch to have....he avoids red meat or take the meds before and it won't trigger. don't know if it's true but he said it's uric acid...

Why take pharmaceuticals with side effects when there is a perfectly good natural solution? 🤷‍♂️
Because it is faster. During the acute phase it is very, very uncomfortable and you want it gone ASAP. Have you ever had it?

Once you've got it settled down, then you can switch to lifestyle changes as a longterm alternative. As well, I'd refer to the recommendations of a nutritionist as oppossed to hobbyists.

Had this since Sunday, joint behing big toe is red, swollen, hurts even topush on it gentley

Research points to gout on dr google

Anybody have any experience, especially how to make it go away
Have some omega 3 rich foods like Salmon.
No Shellfish!!! No Tofu, No Red meats.
Drink a lot of water.
I recently had Episode and it was a light one, took about 1 week to recover. Quicker if you drink a lot of water.

For fairly immediate relief (over night) get/use Colchicine .... works wonders overnight. After having gout a few times, I was told to try using Voltaren xtra strength at the first sign/pain. I found that rubbing voltaren in twice a day helps and maybe stops inflamation without medication. I keep 3 colchicine pils on hand for emergency. Note, I am not a Doctor but a sufferer like you. LOL

Yup.
I have it once in a while.
Sucks.
You need Colchicine. Ask your family doctor.
Eat less purines - red meat, fish, shellfish and dont become dehydrated.

I had about 10 gout flare-ups in the past 20 years. Last time I went to see a doc he prescribed Colchicine and anti-inflammatory pills called Lornoxicam.

Yup 5 times in the last 7 years or so. The toe hurts even when you put a light cover on it, and definitely walking is really tough. Painful. doctor prescribed colchisine (which takes care of the flareup in 3 - 4 days). Without it, it will last 3 weeks+. I keep a prescription and when I sense a flareup coming -- I pop 1 a day and drink a bunch of water.

Alternatively doctor had suggested allopurinal but you have to take it all the time so have never gone down this route.

Diet helps control it. Lots of water, lower red meat, red wine, beer and shellfish.

And how long did it take for the meds to bring some relief?

I'm currently suffering from it right now. It fucks with your life!!! No meds or painkillers this time (long story). I'm just over 3 weeks raw-dawgin' the pain.

In my experience most people that I have encountered with gout drink to much alcohol and don't drink enough water.

And I'm talking about drinking at least 8 cups a day.

'

''What is the main cause of gout uric acid?

Eating or drinking foods high in purines are more likely to lead to high uric acid levels in your body that cause gout, including: Sugary drinks and sweets: Standard table sugar is half fructose (fruit sugar), which breaks down into uric acid. Any food or drink with high sugar content can trigger gout.''

Lifestyle changes take a while though...

That's a good question. The truth is every time it took a minimum of two weeks to completely heal, no matter what pills or food I had. Though with Colchicine it felt slightly better only in a day or two. It's still hard to tell if it was Colchicine, if I was already on the road for recovery, or if it was mostly a placebo effect. The doc explained to me that Colchicine actually would break up the accumulated crystal in your toe, so I believe it had some good effect. Maybe a more aggressive dosage would have proven it to me.

The most important thing for me now is prevention. Because I know once it starts, it is a two-week sentence of house arrest. I am semi-vegetarian now, don't drink beer anymore, don't drink anything sweetened outside of meal times, etc. but it helps me stay out of gout and be in overall good shape.

Yeah, complete healing takes a while. I was thinking how long it takes to get out of the acute phase when it's really, really sensitive. The point where it's not totally gone but it's tolerable and you can start doing some normal activities.
