You have to realise that in Europe a lot of growing private companies get bank backing to grow, and dont necessarily go IPO as often as happens in North American equity markets.
So saying TSX overtakes Paris float as daily volume or whatever metric to measure is kind of like comparing apples and peaches.
And why zombie banks in times of economic contraction are a bigger deal in Europe than we place on when banks sink in North America.

My direct play on Europe is Topicus. It is doing well but unfortunately I did not buy a lot of it.
if you want a wider exposure, consider a USD ADR of a Eurostoxx index.
There might be easier ETF's to do this today, but when I was backing a thesis thta Europe had more bounce than US after a down period quite a few years ago ADR's were the only game in town.

They're equity markets and this shows the importance of diversification, the only free lunch in investing.
