Pakistani national with ties to Iran tried to hire hitmen to potentially assassinate Trump, other US politicians

Lots of people are shot every day in America. Are we suppose to care more because trumps daddy gave him hundreds of millions of dollars?

Would you care if hitmen were hired to assassinate Kamala by
someone with ties to Putin?
Let's nip this stupidity in the bud. It is incredibly newsworthy and important to recognize that a foreign power was allegedly working to assassinate ANY American citizen on US soil. It is extraordinary that they (Iran) would target Trump. We know there is no love for him, and they've vowed revenge. But...did they think this through???

Wouldn't it be an act of war? Even though he's out of office....I would think the US would retaliate. I mean...they'd have too. Would that involve the targeting of Iranian leadership? Would it mean the US would contemplate taking on the Iranian army? I don't know. There obviously isn't an appetite for another war in the middle east....but this could change opinions quickly. I mean, I think MAGA would invade on their own, but it would probably anger/shock Dems who might see the importance of flexing US muscle in retaliation...And....It would be a warning to foreign actors who want think assassinations of American leadership is a viable strategy.

Definitely an act of war if you try to assassinate another country's duly elected leader. USA would for sure destroy Iran's air defenses and airforce, sink its navy, then obliterate anything to do with its nuclear program. The offices of their intel agency would be leveled. Maybe even the ayatollahs place. But they'd search their intel to see which kind of strike increases the chances to depose the ruling revolutionary guard so the people could get back in power.

If its true, hard to say at this point. If it is true then its Iran retaliating for rump's assassination of an Iranian.
The plot was allegedly in retaliation to the 2020 Trump-ordered killing of prominent Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani, US Attorney General Merrick Garland confirmed Tuesday.

Assassinating people is pretty stupid as policy, it just leads to more of the same.

Iran’s new Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has told French and British counterparts in telephone conversations that it was his country’s right to retaliate against Israel for last month’s assassination of a Hamas official in Tehran, the official IRNA news agency reported.

But rich, Iran can say the same thing.
If they declare rump is a terrorist then they are just as justified to assassinate him. That's the way it works, right?
And even if not, Iran has declared they have a right to respond to the latest assassination by Israel.

Why not just use the law instead of assassination?
Why not diplomacy?

Israel just declared their own government to be terrorists.
You gonna assassinate them too?

Any country that the US has bombed their civilians can use that same logic, rich.
Why do you think just yelling 'terrorist' gives you the right to ignore human rights and the law?

Yes, it would've been in retaliation for Qassem Soleimani. But, that just feels really stupid for Iran to attempt something like this. As I said, the US would have to respond. And their choice of response tends to be Tomahawk cruise missiles. I wouldn't be shocked if they took out all Iranian political and religious leaders. But...that would likely trigger more violence, so it is difficult to see where this could all eventually lead....

The US doesn't want war with Iran and Iran doesn't want war in general. They haven't attacked anyone in 200 years.
But Iran also can't just sit there and let Israel assassinate and attack at will, so they will have to respond.
So far they've just been saying that they will and as long as they keep that threat alive Israel is stuck with cancelled flights, no tourists and and a pause.

Right now it appears they are waiting for the hopeless Gaza peace talks to finish, though it looks like everyone has given up. Netanyahu won't agree to a ceasefire that ends the genocide, just a pause. Valcazar argues that Hamas should accept the pause, hand over all the hostages and then continue to be bombed and starved.

When Israel bombed the Iranian embassy in Syria, Iran responded with an announced missile attack for show. They sent off a series of slower missiles that could be stopped, enough to placate their people but not enough to do real damage or start a war.

Likely when they respond it will be a bit more serious than that but we'll see. They could hit Israeli targets outside of Israel, they could assassinate a politician in return or they could continue to just issue threats.
