A New Jersey father has entered a plea deal after fatally punching a man who called his kids the N-word. Lavallette-Seaside Shorebeat reports that the Black man, Anthony Collins, struck Robert May, 70, in September 2023 in Seaside Heights, NJ. Collins pled guilty to manslaughter in connection to the attack in June and will now spend three years in jail. Under terms of the No Early Release Act, the man will need to serve about 31 months of his sentence before he’s eligible for parole.

Refusing medical treatment should automatically make it a simple assault.

But with cell phones - record and report. It is a pain and unfair and it is hard for POC to go to police. But with video evidence, and SM - you can get something done about it. It is just going to take time.

Don't forget elder abuse. A really good open handed slap followed by some "in your face" comments would have been more appropriate. Assault might not even stick...

It is not elder abuse. Not everything negative against an old person is abuse. Just like not everything is racist or some other type of phobic behaviour. People like to through buzz words around that don’t match. This doesn’t match elder abuse.

I agree he clearly swung harder then needed but the man has harassed this family for a while and I can understand the man just punching instead of taking 30 seconds to think that a slap would be better because he guy is old. If he had taken 30 seconds, he may as well have just thought better of the whole thing and not hit him at all.

I just don’t agree with a murder charge when the old man refused medical attention. Death may not have happened if medical attention was able to be given.
