Which former Toronto Maple Leaf was the first overall selection in the first NHL Amateur Draft, (June 5, 1963)?

Hints:

He scored his first NHL goal in the 1969-70 season, for his second NHL team, after having played 14 games over the two previous NHL seasons with the team that drafted him, scoring no points.

He played for three Canadian-based NHL teams, including two separate stints with the Maple Leafs, almost four complete seasons apart.

His last three seasons of Professional hockey were spend playing in the JIHL, (Japanese Ice Hockey League).
Gary Monaghan?

Which Sarnia-born member of the NHL Hall of Fame and OMJHL Junior hockey trophy award-winner, who's entire career was played during the Draft era, (post 1962-63 season), scored the most NHL career goals among all players who were undrafted as amateurs?
Dino Ciccarelli.
IIRC, he scared off a lot of NHL teams because he basically had to have a steel rod surgically implanted in his spine when in junior.

Habs got Peter Mahovlich for Monahan...I'd say that was a good trade.
Pete Mahovlich was the 2nd overall pick in the 1963 NHL amateur draft. Pete was the second-worst fighter in NHL history, ahead of only Keith Magnusson. Magnusson never won a fight, and Pete only won one, and it was against Magnusson.

Eligibility in the 1963 draft was limited to amateur players who would reach 17 years of age between August 1, 1963, and July 31, 1964. Most of the talented players that age were already playing for teams sponsored by NHL clubs. The Montreal Canadiens famously bought the Quebec Aces team to ensure that they would have dibs on Jean Beliveau.

Some Toronto Blue Jay trivia that is recently topical.
--Which player holds the all time franchise record for longest hitting streak?
--Which player holds the franchise record for most leadoff home runs during their time with the Jays?

The first question has been answered correctly by unassuming.
Answer to the second question:
According to the Blue Jays tv broadcast crew Devon White has the most leadoff home runs in franchise history. I think it's 22.

Can't remember if this has been posted already. Name the first player from the NHL, NBA, MLB, and NFL to have their number retired.

unassuming answered the NHL question correctly.
