Omar is not popular outside her district. It's not that she is progressive (she is), it's her anti-American demeanor that turns people off. It doesn't help that the U.S. accepted her family as refugees from the turmoil in the Somalian Civil War. You might remember the U.S. lost men in aid missions dealing with Somali war lords.

American citizens are entitled to their opinion and other Americans are entitled to find them offensive. It really has nothing to do with her race or religion.

indeed i do not know her that much. I would only appreciate full separation of politics and religion. would not to see her doing her public service without any religious symbol. But unfortunately the US, like Canada is not ready or doesn't have the balls for that.

Most Americans don't like her because anti-Americanism is not (surprise, surprise) a big seller. Ilhan Omar has a resentment to the country that took her in and tried to help her country during chaotic civil wars.
