I'm sure there is some detail about the bridge or the uniform or something.

The 8am edition of the paper being final. Also often editions of the paper had a star system to indicate how early it came out. One-star being the first edition, and four/five star being the final.

I could see an 8am edition being final. (Although I do think they tended to be later.)

I think it more likely to be something like the badge being one not used until 10 years later or the cigarettes or matches being wrong.

Correct, the Canadian maple leaf was not used during prohibition. You can see it in the newspaper @ 0:14 in the video.
