Clark is benefitting immesely from her popularity, as she should. Nike signed her to a 7-year, $28 million deal, including a signature shoe. She has endorsement deals also with State Farm, Gatorade, Wilson (basketball balls) and others. According to some estimates, Clark will earn more in one year from her endorsements than any other women's basketball player has earned in their entire careers. That sort of money is not going down well with some of the players and certain segments of the media. The race card is being played hard. But when Tiger Woods stormed to the scene and benifited immensely from huge multiple endorsements, no one said it was because he is black.

The Fever beat the Dream 91-79 on Friday night in front a record-breaking 17,575 fans at State Farm Arena. The game was played at the home of the Atlanta Hawks due to high ticket demand to see Caitlin Clark.

The Atlanta Dream play normally in an arena with a capacity of 3500. With the Fever coming to town last night, the match was moved to State Farm Arena where the Hawks play. And 17,575 showed up, their highest attendance ever. Their previous attendance record was 11,609, their first ever game.

The next game for the Fever is in Chicago on Sunday. Ticket prices are averaging $351, the highest ever for a WNBA game.

The only thing that can beat low quality on the field is nationalism.
If a major country in a sport has a woman's team that can dominate and if for some reason their men's team sucks then the women's team will draw eyeballs.

Caitlin Clark was by far the best player on her college teams and she took disproportionately high number of shots. She brought the same approach to the pros where defenses are tougher, resulting in high turnovers and a 2-9 Fever record. Her coaches must have gotten to her to trust her teammates, two of whom won college national championships. Since she scaled back her shot attempts, the Fever have won 4 straight and she wasnt the top scorer on any of those games. Team trumps individuality

She's amazing for a female basketball player, and has brought a lot of attention to the WNBA. I read somewhere that the average starting salary for an NBA player is in the $1,000,000 range, whereas Caitlin's starting salary is $76,000. Mind you she just signed a $28,000,000 5 year endorsement contract with Nike, so she won't have to hold any rent parties.

As I mentioned in another post, I watched her first pro game and was underwhelmed by female pro basketball in general. Once you've watched NBA games it's hard to get excited by WNBA games.

There is no comparison to the male game, but I don't think many people are looking at it that way.

Same with women's tennis. With a few exceptions, most top male amateurs could easily beat most pro women players.

Females are doing just fine when physicality is not a factor. Right now in Canada, 55% of all college graduates are female. And the most recent Canadian medical school classes have a mean of 58% female and a mean of 42% male. So, take that!

What people like you are doing with Clark is skewing the facts and reality.

Clark is a trash talker and conducts herself in an unsportsmanlike way. The people want to know why is she cheered and rewarded for taunting and trash talking, but any other person doing this would be punished or be regarded negatively?

For Tiger, there was always a racial conversation around him, but the was no social media in 1996 to freely discuss it.

1: we are talking about sport here.

2: Odd that, whenever a field si 55 or 60 percent or more male, it's time for everyone to grasp their pearls and demand action, but when it's the other way around, when young brohiems are dropping out and losing interest, it's a big meh. I remember during an MBA HR class the female professor was saying they should let in 50% women before the numbers were skewered in fvor of men [not at UoW levels but still, yet the university as a whole was something like 55 or 60% female [keeping in mind that there are about 105 men for 100 females born, and the 52% female number happens because they live longer] but did she suggest the same treatment in that... nah of course not. Not sure if it was ever corrected but about 10 years ago in the Globe and Mail they were saying there were something like 5 gender based scholarships in nursing... all for woman... in fucking nursing.

The other question is the decline of males in academics, is it because of some inability or is there something else going on there. I suspect the latter. Spent over a decade in the universities, don't think I'd be inclined to want to go if I were a wee lad today. Glad I came up when I did in the late 80's and 90's
