Went to Long Point too.
For once, I have few words for the experience.
Perfect conditions for an astounding once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Thanks to @Phil C. McNasty for letting me know that 99.998% from the Toronto Islands would have been a waste of time.
It's not so much the image of the moon crossing the sun. It's the rapid onset and end of darkness and the erie light that is the magic feeling elicited by a total eclipse!

Photokeratitis is a painful eye condition that occurs when your eye is exposed to invisible rays of energy called ultraviolet (UV) rays, either from the sun or from a man-made source.
Photokeratitis is like having a sunburned eye. This condition affects the thin surface layer of the cornea — the clear front window of the eye — and the conjunctiva, which is the clear tissue covering the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids.
What causes photokeratitis
Photokeratitis is caused by damage to the eye from ultraviolet (UV) rays. Sunlight is the main source of natural UV rays.
Photokeratitis can be caused by sun reflection from sand, water, ice and snow. It can also happen if you stare at the sun, such as watching a solar eclipse directly without using a special device. A solar eclipse can also cause a burn to the retina, which is long lasting and more serious than temporary corneal damage.
The totality path went nearly down the middle of Lake Erie for awhile. The drug interdiction fleet out of Erie and Buffalo were in the totality path hoping somebody would try a smuggling run in the dark. Dweebs

Interesting that with enough cloud cover you can get a shot without a filter.I am pretty sure going to Niagara was a complete and total waste of time.
Went to HTO Park, full cloud cover. However it did get quite dark. But when the eclipse cleared up, so did the cloud cover and I snapped a few pics. Note: the actual eclipse at its peak was fuller than this.

Yup.
It's a major difference.
If you are close though, you still get the eerie lighting, but not that final effect.
The whole last bit where the light goes strange through to snapping into darkness for totality is really quite amazing.
I'm really glad I saw it.

I learned something new!
I had a bit of a scare with the eclipse glasses. I ordered a set of six from Amazon with other items but when the other items came without the glasses, I thought I must accidently omitted them. I ordered a different pair only to end up getting the original 6 with the two I just ordered.
I gave the original six away to co-workers because I'm such a good guy. Well I thought I was a good guy .. on Tuesday I got a credit back because Amazon discovered the 6 pair were not properly certified.
Nobody has complained and they certainly were dark lenses. Just curious - did anyone else use the defective eclipse glasses ?

I saw a clip from Fox News where they were freaking out about migrants trying to cross into Texas during the eclipse. I guess they forgot it gets dark every night?
I was told I could look at the eclipse with a colander.
