Apparently the Republicans dont know the difference between sentencing guidelines and crimes. AOC does but Fox is making her out to be a fool. These hearings are more like Abbott and Costellos who's on first than any actual serious proceeding . Its sad that the GOP is so beholden to Trump that they have to keep this circus going. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ao...crime-comment-biden-impeachment-probe-hearing

Comer : The Biden's are guilty of covering up crimes
Democrats : What crimes ?
Comer : We could tell you if they didnt cover them up

Well for one the trump impeachment hearings started with al allegedly high crime and misdemeanour. The Biden hearings started and they they are searching for an impeachable offence.

Then add to that the parade of scoundrels the gop has marched out and you have hearings that exactly the same except in any respect.

Except its easy to name the rump crimes and present evidence.
Whatcha got for Biden?

(other than support for genocide)
Thank goodness Biden only supports genocide, otherwise he would be a bad guy. Lol!

Unless AOC changes her Communistic tendencies, she'll be this generation's Bernie Sanders in years to come.
I know this is too much reading for a skooby sized brain, but the dems have already proven that its the progressive/AOC side of the party that can beat the GOP every time, the problem is that the corporate/Biden side gets all the cash, like from AIPAC.

There's a good explainer thread by Cory Doctorow, that you won't read and can't understand, but here it is anyways.

Well, far better than being this generation's Josh Hawley, Boebo, MTG, Ted Cruz, Mario Rubio. Mike Johnson, Mike Pence, Ken Paxton, Greg Abbott, Ron DeSantis or any other GOP fucktard.

I like Cory a lot, but he and I disagree a bit about this.
He's overly optimistic about the current power dynamic, he oversells union victories as if they are inevitable, and he doesn't acknowledge that one of the reasons the base GOP position works is due to the very counter-majoritarian structures he wants to dismantle.

That said, it's a really good thread (as most stuff by him is) and the fact that the very coalitional nature of the Democratic party is part of why things are often so difficult and incoherent about the way it approaches things is completely right.

I do notice that you decided to claim that he argues this is because "the corporate/Biden side gets all the cash, like from AIPAC" which isn't what Cory claims in the thread at all.

Cory was just in town for a talk, he's great but I agree, he has a take and its not without its issues.
He does talk about genocide but stays away from politics and parties in his discussions generally.
So no, he doesn't talk about AIPAC specifically, he talks about corporate dems accepting lobbying money. AIPAC is of course one of the biggest lobbying groups.

He also discusses your form of dem support, the 'neutral' technocrats with 'realistic' policies, much like your 'pragmatic' support of genocide.
And do check out the link in that post.

Cory's views on my politics are quite clear to me, thanks.
I don't need you to "interpret" him for me.
:)

Yes, Klein's book is very good.
Not sure what about it is something you think is relevant to the discussion?

That thread confirms Cory as a supporter of Palestinian rights, which seemed to be something you were doubting.
The Cory post was interesting from my view as he argued that its the progressives like AOC that win the votes but that the 'pragmatic' type of dems, which you represent here, control the funding for the party.

It was a good reminder that the 'pragmatism' you back isn't the vote winning gambit for the dems.

A couple key differences :

Trumps own inner circle claimed to have witnessed crimes and were ordered not to tesitfy against Donald or risk revenge which will include being fired and most likely taken to court, sued or thrown in jail.
Comers circus was ordered by Trump way back in 2019. Zelensky wouldnt cave to the extortion so instead Trumps loyal servents took over the job. To date there is 0 evidence of any crimes committed by the Bidens revealed in these hearings and the entire case revolves around the testimory of criminals who are paid by the GOP, who also say there is no evidence of any crimes committed by the Bidens, and one who is charged for lying about the case.

Sure many politicans do shady things, but none in recent have the audacity to commit crimes right in front of everyones eyes and bait the legal system to take action then cry foul when they do.

What on Earth would make you think I doubted Cory was a supporter of Palestinian rights?
He's been a supporter for years, one with a complex and very nuanced position on the subject, in fact.

Klein's book isn't about that.
If you wanted to talk about that, you would have linked to his March 20th piece.

That piece is all about being pragmatic about what wins and when.

I don't know him personally, I've read a few books, lots of xitter and saw him speak.
I also don't know what you know about him, adding that note was for clarity.

I did link to that thread, which was the pizzaburger named thread on the xitter and then included the one post of that thread that linked to the Klein.
That's where the discussion started. Cory argues that its the working class/progressive side that wins votes but the money side that controls the power.

The latest bill defunding the UNRWA at the same time Blinken demanded more aid for Palestinians is a good example of the corporate side of the dems pushing bills. They included a clause that if funding resumes they can pull all funding for the UNRWA if the PA initiates or supports any ICC investigations. Meanwhile AOC calls for a ceasefire.
