The 401 in Whitby (and only that section) has or had chevrons painted in the pavement for a long time. It's been ages since I've been out that far so I don't know if they're still there or not.

Between Grimsby and St Catherines and NF and Fort Erie there are perpendicular white lines or makers for Aerial OPP to measure you.

Things happen for a reason, understand cause and effect.

Cause: when you drive at 110-115, and there is a gap of 200-300 meters between you and the car in front, you're driving too slow, and blocking every other car behind you, since there's no way of passing without breaking some traffic laws.

Effect: Guy behind you tailgates and flashing high beams.

120 is more ideal, some do 130 but that's risky, 150+ gets your car impounded.110-115 is for people on the far right. if you're driving like a douche in the HOV lane...don't complain about people flashing you.

This is my biggest complaint, Yes, the speed limit is the speed limit, but if you are inclined to go 110-115km/hr and the non HOT lanes are going that speed, then go in the middle lane or far right and "park it" going that speed where you are not essentially blocking a fast lane. Admittedly, I drive way too fast and I am trying to change that the older I get, trying to chill the f out while driving for safety and sanity reasons, but there is always, I mean Always someone that goes 110 in the far left lane and forces everyone to go around them that wants to either pass or go faster. It is proven that the people that do this cause more traffic and accidents by not staying to the middle or far right lanes. SIgns everywhere that say "Slower traffic keep right" for a reason. With that being said, if I am in the HOT and the other lanes are going slow, I always slow down in case someone is going to come over last minute. and TBH, the 5-15km/her i go faster doesn't really make that much of difference in my eta. it's just the annoyance of being stuck behind someone that feels that they have the G=d given right to be in that lane. It's not the autobahn, but there are basic driving techniques (won't call them rules...) that people should follow and it would make for easier driving all around. Don;t even get me started on Tesla drivers...

I can see your frustration, and I always move over for faster drivers, no matter how fast they go. It is not my job to enforce speed limits.

However, in the HOV lane there is nowhere to go, except at certain points, and you really cannot expect me to take a speeding ticket because you want to go faster than 115 km/ h. ( Try to work out how many minutes you are saving by going 125 km/h instead of 115 km/h from Oakville to Burlington.)

Agreed. The HOV lane isn't for ultra speeding, it's for carpooling (or buying access). If you want to drive 125+ do it in another lane.

I completely agree, as long as someone is going 115-120 in the HOT, I have no issue with that. it's more when a vehicle is going 100-110, they should just stay in the far right lane. In the end, it's still safer and generally saves a few minutes total.

Wrong. I am flying past the traffic on the 403 in the HOV lane, the other three lanes are traveling at 60-80 kmh, the HOV lane is doing it's job as it is moving traffic at almost twice the rate of the regular lanes.
I do not need to drive 120 - 130/kmh in the HOV lane...he can flash his high beams all he wants, I just wave at them.

BUT, I have left the HOV in a spot that is a solid line to pass someone going 105-110, I don't want to tailgate somebody, also not safe or fair.

If I want to go faster than you and I change lanes to do it, then keep your car at that slower speed and saunter off into the sunset. Why "prove yourself" by speeding up because I went around?

My strategy: Just Ignore anyone who drives at 110km in the hov lane, can't wait for a tailgate / brake check related collision because someone made up a stupid theory that there is no need to go past 110 km. This is way off topic anyway, will not reply any futhur.

You guys are lucky you drive in Canada. In some European countries, I am familiar with Denmark, the speed limit means what it says. If the limit is 100 km/h you are supposed to not go over 100 km/h, and everybody drives 100 km/h.

Watch the center concrete barrier at some light poles carefully.
Occasionally there is a notch where a car can park.
And there are what are called 'enforcement bays'

This light pole is near Dorval / Kerr St exit on QEW, I've been watching this thing for a while, yesterday for the first time I saw a car parked at that spot, I believe it's a Toyota, with no emergency light on, definitely felt liked an unmarked cop car.

Those are called the “kings of the road”. They refuse to get over due to ego and general awareness. Will be seen clutching the wheel as you go past Them on the right. Often a tesla as of late or a Toyota or a Honda civic or a pick up truck

Oh my god I can’t stand those that do this too They are so infuriated that they will speed up as you’re passing them when they were refusing to speed up when you flashed them and almost rear ended them. They don’t check their mirrors. These are the types to cluelessly come into the fast lane when theres no one in front of them in the middle lane “just because “

I have been ticketed once and was let off because I argued the lanes are discriminatory based on economics and social status. ie. if you have a lot of money and can afford a 60-100K+ Tesla you can drive there, if you are married or have a partner with you you can drive there. But if you are not wealthy enough or are single you get fined. Even though you pay the same road tax as everyone else.

My advice, drive it. fuck em all for trying to milk us for more money for no reason. Or hire an escort, get a hummer and a handy on your trip and do it that way.

I think the problem is our justice system. Letting go people breaking the traffic or criminal laws will only escalate to a point we will become another country like the USA where we will be carrying guns in our glove compartment.

This is interesting. Did you actually argue this with the police officer and were let off onsite? Or did you have to go to court?
If you were let off by the police office onsite, I applaud you. I can't imagine a cop letting someone off who argues with him about the law.

Not necessarily.

Many years ago, I was once driving in a group of 3 cars with a bit of a gap between us but we were all travelling at the same rate of speed (i.e. the gap was constant), on Hwy 26 heading to Collingwood to ski.

The car in front of me (the lead car in the group) was pulled over by the police, then a cruiser came from the opposite direction did a u-turn and pulled over the car behind me. I was in the middle car and the last car standing. A lucky day for me.

Made me think of packs of animals where the animals in the middle of the pack are protected from predators...
