Maybe more people are getting their hit of dopamine from social media rather than sex?

I got irritated that the article did the usual smartphones and screens nonsense, until it finally mentioned female financial autonomy.

The writer should have also touched upon the changes in the living arrangements of young people, specifically living with their parents in large homes, and often being as the Japanese put it, full-time children.

A long time ago women were at an automatic economic advantage vis-a-vis men. Sex was one of their primary power tools and they used it. Women needed a man to increase her current and future economic prosperity. That is no longer the case as a result of the hard work that women have put into education, careers, and demands for appropriate pay.

It is somewhat ironic that the very subject of message boards like this one are women who greatly enhance their economic position by having sex with the men who can afford them.

For women who do not do sex work, at least directly, they are often happy, successful singles who make pretty significant demands from a potential mate, as evidenced by the thread complaining about the high sense of worth they have, or something like that. While the relatively recent economic success of women has increased overall Gross Domestic Product, it means there are fewer men with higher earning power than them. So there is less opportunity for women to use sex as a tool to keep “Movin‘ On Up” as the jingle on the TV show The Jefferson’s put it.

So there is less sex for economic reasons. And we should thank god there are still such good sex workers remaining who exchange money for sex.

There was once a male-dominated media culture, Playboy Magazine and even Cosmopolitan to an extent, that made sex an act of rebellion against an authoritarian culture that included The Church. Coming of age movies always involved the cool kids having sex, often at the end after a dramatic buildup. Every kid is going to respond to that. Those days are gone. The media is now more likely to tell young women the truth. They will have better orgasms with their vibrator, and/or another girl, than with a guy. So the amount of fucking in order to rebel is now nonexistent.

Even if young people want to have sex with each other, fewer actual opportunities to do so exist because they often live at home in these really bad idea McMansions that were built. Society once sent kids off to become adults at 18 and they lived with other, instead of with their parents, in shitty arrangements where they supported themselves. They called home long distance once a week, usually on Sunday, using a landline or a pay phone. Sex is a touchy subject between parents and children. Hard to fuck a lot of people in your childhood bedroom with your parents there. And even if they are on their own, they text their goddamn parents several times a day about everything. The young ladies probably get creeped out if they have to remember to omit sucking a guy off when they tell their dads about everything they did that day.

In my opinion, we just have to recognize that less sex is available now than it once was, especially from those most of us actually want to have sex with (I figure that 70 percent of guys desire sex from 30 percent of women). And we should appreciate the availability of sex workers. The best ones are more expensive than they once were, for good underlying economic reasons. It won’t get any “better” for guys, and the amount of sex occurring worldwide is unlikely to return to previous levels.

Sounds like you are speaking of narcissist and clowns.

Club scenes are dying, social justice enforced laws such as street harassment make men hesitant to approach women, criminalizing of male sexuality via Nordic model laws, etc.

I remember when Toronto was at least vibrant in the 90s and early 2000s club scene. By the time it was mid-2015, the remaining clubs were populated by snobs and Instafluencers who would rather take a selfie than talk to anyone, including the bartender.
