Look how clean the street is...
The Capitol theatre, on Yonge Street, just south of Keewatin. Based on the signage, looks to be 1964. The star studded cast of What a Way to Go, came out in June of that year. Photo courtesy of Dale Marshall.

Closer to Dundas was Cinema 2000, Times Square, and Stoppers. The day came when I was old enough to legally go into them, and man did I go nuts.
I was about 13 years old when I saw a hooker/street walker for the first time (not for a session, lol ) near the corner of Yonge and Gerrard, in front of a Wax Museum where she conducted her business , over heard her giving the rates to a john.

Rock and Roll capital of North America back in the day, Friars Tavern, Le Coq D'or, Colonial Tavern, The Upfront Lounge, Bassils Restaurant and of course strip clubs, Brass Rail and Zanzibar. Ah, those were the days.

In 1948 the traffic on Yonge Street and other major arterial roads was so bad that the City’s Committee on Works recommended that the stretch of Yonge Street from Terauley Street (near Dundas) to Heath Street (north of St. Clair) be widened to approximately 86 feet. In preparation for this work...
