Personally I don’t like sweet mixed with savoury, so no pineapple on my pizza. However in the case of Italy, pizza is part of their cultural identity and many of them would innately not welcome “ foreign “ versions of their pizza.
The tomato was not native to Italy, was brought there from South America by the European explorers post Columbus and the Italians quickly integrated the vegetable into their cuisine with tomato sauce becoming standard on their simple cheese and very thin crust pizza.
Italian immigrants to America took pizza to a new level with the addition of meats, thick crusts and many toppings.

California rolls is often looked down on in Japan because it is a foreign innovation which contains avocados .

Blame Canada ….

Hawaiian pizza, topped with ham and pineapple, was not an Italian invention. And despite the name, it did not come from the US island state of Hawaii either. The pizza was actually created in Canada in 1962 by a Greek immigrant called Sam Panopoulos.

I have not tried anchovies/pineapple pizza, but I will eat anything that taste good. I suspect many people do not like anchovies because they have a fishy smell/taste. If you hit fishy smelling/tasting foods with a quick hot oil fry it will tame the fishy smell.

I love pizza and I love pineapple but I don't like pineapple on a pizza. Yuck!
Also a big yuck for anchovies too.

Is that the same for any fishy taste on pizza ?

My introduction to pineapple on pizza was at university. We had a student from Hong Kong who paid for the pizza if he could put pineapple on it. It didn't take long when I really liked it with ham. I prefer without but the occasional Hawaiian is still nice.

The Great Bonci served pineapple pizza to Anthony Bourdain on his first trip to Rome. If Bonci likes pineapple of pizza, no reason why the rest rest of the country wouldn't.

That was Bonci then....

...this is Bonci now, he quit alcohol.

We missed out, there used to be a Roman pizza joint on the southeast corner of Yonge and Gerrard, I still remember it. It got turned into a croissant joint....don't know what it is now. Bonci opened restaurants in Chicago and Miami...but not here. :(
