I remember seeing Elvis on the Sullivan show, I think more than once. If you could get a copy of his appearance on that TV show, you will notice that the coverage never showed Elvis below his waist, as his so called sexy hip movements could not be seen on TV. Trivia question, how many countries did Elvis appear in live. Answer, my mother in 1957 saw him at the Maple Leaf Gardens.
Another favourite of mine in his later years, It Doesn't Matter Anymore. Interesting point, his song was True Love Ways, a lovely ballad was later recorded by Waylon Jennings who was a member of the crickets, his version was sung in a cappella. Of course he gave up his seat on a flight with Holly, Ritchie Valens(La Bamba) to the big Bopper, JP Richardson who were killed in their plane accident, hence the song The Day The Music Died by Don McLean, American Pie. IMO, Waylon was a great country singer, also known for being a part of the group The Highwaymen. Consisting of him, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, ugh, and one of the great songwriters in country and folk, Kris Kristofferson who wrote one of Gordon Lightfoot's biggest and best hit songs, Me And Bobby McGee. Ah, the memories.
That was the song my second ex and I had them play for the first dance at our wedding. Fell kinda flat as the singer was no Buddy Holly, and the band wasn't The Crickets. And the marriage didn't last, so there ya go...
I was lucky enough to see "skinny Elvis" live at the Las Vegas Hilton when he was in residence. Killer show, with James Burton on his Tele and as the head of the orchestra.
