Apple
You’re paying for the look and the name.

Cartier jewelry
You’re paying premium so that strangers can think you’re cool

Van Cleef & Arpels
Same as above

Christian Louboutin
Definitely paying premium for the red sole. Shoes aren’t even comfortable. If you’re gonna buy designer shoes, invest in another brand.

Audi
Glorified Volkswagen

Louis Vuitton
The Neverfull bag specifically, you’re paying big bucks for plastic and it’s one of the most easily replicated bag.

A winter coat has no business being over $1000 like I can’t see the reasoning in that
The claim to be made in Canada including the down and trim, which will definitely increase it's cost. There's no way to know if that means 100% made in Canada or 99% overseas and the patch is sewn on in Canada. If there are loopholes like that in the packaging laws, I'm sure they've found them.

It was a utilitarian brand at one point, but once Hollywood took notice they took off. I'm curious how much their jackets used to cost before they became super popular.

Second printer has usb only for setup. No drivers for usb interface for some reason. So, only wireless, and it worked for a while with windows 10 until a later update killed all wireless interfaces for many wireless printers. Both the printer manufacturer and micro$oft would not provide a solution. I ended up with an è-waste instead of a perfectly functioning printer. The printer worked with Linux, but I didn’t want to switch to Linux at the time.
Wow. that's unusual to have a USB port only for setup. Out of curiosity, what's the make and model of your printer? If you still have it around, you could try rolling back the Windows update that killed your printer.

Apple. Says me, typing this from an 8 year old Macbook Air. 😂
This is the thing with Apple. They are hyped but in my opinion, they deserve some of the hype. Now since Jobs is gone, things are going down a bit but I don’t have have to buy a new computer every 5 years.

I have an iPad gen 1 that is in perfect working condition. If the software would have kept up, I wouldn’t have upgraded. The hardware is really unbeatable.

What brings it down is the software limits that use to force you buy new.

Lexmark. It was too late to roll back the update. Fucking windows only allows ten days of rollback time. Assholes.

Even 20 years ago, Lexmark was a crap brand. I had many of them in the office and they'd often get paper jams or other hardware problems. Too bad the HP LaserJet 4 isn't supported anymore because they were built like tanks.

I think the latest IOS will work on devices up to 5 years old. Mac laptops and desktops are likely the same. That's pretty good, but I know that Google's latest Pixel 8 is supposed to get 7 years of feature and security updates. Whether or not they follow through and if the older devices work on the newest Android versions is anyone's guess.

For the most part, Apple has great hardware designs that work extremely well with the software. On the other hand, their dumbest product is the Magic Mouse that you can't use and charge at the same time because the cable is on the bottom. It's also not particularly comfortable to use because of its shape. Or the crazy expensive monitors that have special power cords.

I had different experiences with ink jet printers from Lexmark. Very few issues, remarkably.

Many of my friends in Singapore have Canadian Goose jackets. These things are flying off the shelves there. The place is smack down on the Equator and has 30 deg plus tropical climate year round. When I ask them why they would spend on such jackets, they say that everyone has one, it is a status symbol. They might use them once or twice in their life when they travel to a "cold" country. Most Singaporeans holiday in South East Asia or Australia :) These are highly educated and smart people. Baffling.

No way, the Republican Party is pure entertainment.
Fully agree! The coming presidential elections will be the comedy gift that keeps on giving. Lets hope that Donny Trump stays out of prison and Biden is still alive next year, the circus will be complete.

Tesla. There I said it. Let the mud slinging begin.
I agree with Tesla as a car brand. Build quality, materials, finish, interior, it is all quite underwhelming. However, I got to drive one for a couple of weeks as a rental, and have to admit that the tech is very impressive. From over the air updates, to self driving/Auto pilot stuff, integration with charging network, cameras / AI integration, regenerative braking, use of space and so on. The car is overhyped, the experience is underhyped.

Baffling.
Would each section of the garment separated by stitching from the other sections be an example of baffling?

I think any hype they could deserve is overshadowed by the limits. Their totalitarian business decisions are so over-the-top. Planned obsolescence is annoying, but many companies engage in that. Apple does forced obsolescence. One example is that lawsuit from 2017, where they secretly unleashed an "update" that throttled people's old phones to force them to buy a new one. The courts recently ruled against Apple in that.

And then the recent ruling in Europe saying they have to join the rest of the world in using USB-C chargers instead of forcing people to buy proprietary chargers. Every single other device that needs a USB charger uses a common standard, so people can buy them where they want, but Apple has always been like "fuck that, buy from us".

(I hate Apple, obviously, lol). I remember 20 years ago, I was a new hire working at a videogame store, a customer came in and asked if we had any games for Mac. I was like, "We must. It would be nuts if we didn't". Turns out, we didn't. There were no games for Mac because their software is so proprietary, the standard game engines every developer uses don't work on Macs. That's still largely true today, Macs are not for gaming because they're too proprietary (every other computer company uses standardized tech, which allows for more competition) and most game developers don't want to deal with it, and the insane business practices where either you're allowed into their walled garden (for a price) or you're not.

Financially, that's kind of smart. If you bought a $1500 coat that lasts 30+ years it would cost you $50 per year. The coat is going to last longer if you use it less often and if you don't have to deal with regular snow, ice, slush and salt. I do agree though that buying something only to use it once or twice in your lifetime is kind of silly. Then again, I'm sure a lot of people would be baffled on the amount of money we Terbites spend.

That's an understatement, IMO. Their totalitarian business decisions are so over-the-top. Planned obsolescence is annoying, but many companies engage in that. Don't get me started when it comes to computers. I remember 20 years ago, I was a new hire working at a videogame store, a customer came in and asked if we had any games for Mac. I was like, "We must. It would be nuts if we didn't". Turns out, we didn't. More reason to invest in Apple. No matter how badly they treat their customers they keep lining up to buy their stuff. We're not going to change the minds of the sheeple so we may as well earn a few dollars from them.
