My girlfriends 16 year old son just said there is a bitcoin event where the supply is cut in half? How does this happen? Do they press a button and the circulation is split in half?
Should be around April 15 to 25, 2024. Bitcoin always rallies post halving event and most novice day traders cry BS and claim since 2010 till now is too small a sample. Bitcoin followers are not suggesting or telling everyone to take a position. Short term/medium term I'm not a true believer, but long term I think digital money is here to stay. I don't believe in shit coins/alt coins since most of them have gone to zero and been delisted, but I do believe in ETH and SOL. Just check this thread one year from now and we'll see if BTC is here to stay. When Bitcoin crashed to $ 15,000 USD and all the experts told us to back up the truck and take a position, why didn't it crash to zero, it's held and slowly crept back up. If it rallies past ATH's then I will jump on board. Annually, November 21st is a significant date for crypto, but I forgot the TA/theoretical reason, we'll just see in the next weeks ahead.

I'm an old fart. Please explain this like I am 5 years old. What does ethereum offer that bitcoin does not? Might dabble in this risky investment with some play money.
in short, it's faster (higher throughput), more energy efficient , and there are more "applications." stablecoins ? you're on eth. metaverse ? eth. meme coins ? eth. rugpulls? eth . NFTs? eth.

I bet someone is gonna come here commenting how none of that stuff is practical and useful (but I'd argue stablecoins are). but , I don't care anyway because it's all about price performance to me.

as you said, you're here to dabble and thus gamble a bit of money , so all you really care about is price performance like myself .

eth is a naturally leveraged position on Bitcoin, so it essentially has a higher beta. definitely a more attractive ROI than Bitcoin, which I'd argue isn't attractive anymore in terms of crypto returns.

and if a spot BTC ETF gets approved in the US (looks like it will ), only a matter of time an eth ETF gets approved, too.

Thank you. I will probably get a bit of both. Another gentleman on here explained a halving which I find attractive too

With Interest rates at a high level, it depresses riskier investments like stocks and especially crypto.

that's the counter narrative to the halving , yes

but the high rates haven't deterred equity markets this year as well as crypto overall

All the crypto naysayers saying the crash/capitulation state has yet to happen. BTC , ETH retracement of 80%, SOL 95% ( rough calculations +/- 1%). In other words, they are claiming this base formation and rally back this year is a fakeout ?

The transaction fees are terrible. I would lose 2% on every trade.
Don't trade it, just buy a small affordable amount and just sleep on it. I find it's very difficult to add your view on review boards because everyone behaves like they're the expert ( example topics regarding sports, gambling, driving, best restaurants, SP's), and jump all over each other. Let's say the next crypto bull run , runs from April 2024 to mid 2025 or mid 2026, you'll easily recoup your lost 2%, no problem. ( assuming no black swan events ) .

needs to break 32k and hold
Just now Bitcoin dipped below 31k and some huge buyers came in to support it and head back over 31k. The 32k+ close/hold will be hard work, every hobby , Ma/Pa
home daytrader and T/A expert knows and is watching/trading that same number. If I were a sharp T/A daytrader, I would front run and put my stop in at $ 31,800 or so since everyone else is at $ 31,999 ( LOL ).

s

shattered it
I was watching the Bitcoin action live on Bybit and the sharps created a super long green candle and it wicked all the way up to $ 35,600 liquidating all the high leveraged daytraders and triggering all the buy ( on stops) along the way. It crashed down to $ 32,200 just as fast as it rallied. Yikes.

that's why you don't use leverage ...you will get liquidated by whales or the exchange

glad you're making gains , i did buy some in January and June

Solana has a strong army ...should do well going forward
Note that Bitcoin and Ethereum are trading sideways and consolidating and Solana is rallying. Chainlink ( LINK) most likely bottomed out in late 2022 at around $ 5.50. If you don't have to buy big caps, go with SOL and LINK, check back mid to late 2025 to see I'm still high on cheap drugs ! ( I really enjoy the DM's calling me out, if you hate the markets and Crypto, why not just stay out of the space rather then name calling. UGH ) . As you were . . . .

I remember having a discussion with a group of friends About how bitcoin was supposedly Unhackable and therefore you could not make your own. In that discussion we did made 10 ways you could do it. Last I checked 6 of those I've actually been used. Ironically the best 2 meathods Have yet to be en actually done.

Bitcoin in as present form Is doomed because Once somebody serves self printing Is valuable very very low. But like tulips that could be years. I keep on thinking about Give it a a try.

However Bitcoin In a way is this real as the American dollar. The USA have been printing Digital dollars hundreds of times more than previous supply Yet people still use it.

Questions

Anyway so really good discussions here thanks for the information. What's this that you need a driver's license now to buy cryptocurrency what's with that?

How can you buy the smallest amount just to try it? What's the minimum investment? Can you get $1 of bitcoin?

I think when Canada/Ontario cracked down on crypto exchanges/betting platforms, the legit platforms ask you do a KYC form like when you open up a bank account or stock brokerage account. You can buy $ 1.00 worth but the service charges will probably be about the same. Example, on Coinbase if you buy $ 25.00 ( service charge is $ 1.49), if you buy $ 50.00 ( the service charge is $ 1.99), etc etc
