I've been with Rogers for a while and one of the things I liked about the old PVR boxes was that I could build up a catalogue of movies I like, especially rare ones that are sometimes hard to find. Unfortunately, now they've moved to the Ignite cloud-based system and it auto-deletes after 1 year. Sooooo, I want to get some tech that will allow me to either copy stuff off my Rogers Ignite library (don't know if that's possible) or simply record as I'm viewing a saved movie.

I'm not looking for a plethora of options, just how I can save a catalogue of movies as I record them on Ignite. I may also use for YouTube but that's less important.

I'm looking at the Cloner Alliance devices on Amazon and they seem to do what I'm looking for. Anyone had any experience with them?

Have one and Cloner Alliance is great. It makes an excellent digital copy of whatever you are watching on your HDTV to any flash-drive or external SSD you use. Even used Cloner Alliance to make digital copies of old VCR home movie VHS videotapes with no problems.

Unfortunately I have to contact my friend, he will tell me tomorrow I hope. I forgot about you.

Back in the day I used my own PC but only recorded from the Rabbit ears.

He is recording the streams from the net but by VCR to VCR method. Meaning he lets the Nvidia run while he goes and plays and he has a splitter which records while it streams.

hdmi splitter
I will find which one. Unfortunately this is what will be happening in the future , it is life.

Here is the quote of my friend.

I'm not I was only looking into it for something to do this winter. Far as I know you need a minimum Nvidia GTX 1060 video card, 4K HDMI splitter and a free PCI Express port for a card like the AVERMEDIA GC573. I've seen it go on sale like it is now regularly $70 off about 3 times since I've started watching it.

The youtube videos on this model haven't exactly gone into detail about recording streams outside of gaming except that one video where a guy hinted at using it on various streaming services. It was always going to be the achilles heel of the entire entertainment industry...until they figure out a way to lock down that HDMI signal and confirm it's only going to a TV and no where else. You buy a simple HDMI splitter and it circumvents HDCP? it all seems too good to be true but I thought it would be fun to mess around with it.

An update... @Keebler Elf

Gentlemen...should you ever encounter an HDMI cp error or black screen
going to an outdated non-compliant device these were the only models
that stripped the protection and allowed the signal through:

Previously tried 3 others and had mixed results and none of the 3
allowed me to connect the shield to the computer with the HDCP setting
enabled on the capture card. These 2 allowed me to connect perfectly as
well as the bluray player with no mention from my capture card of a
problem connecting. The other 3 wouldn't even allow me to see a picture
without turning HDCP off on the card and I'd often see a message mid
stream there was a problem with "HDMI Communication". 😉
