I thought this was weird also. Usually when Putin has someone killed he does it in a particular way (ie falling out a window or poison) and there is a body that can be identified so that everyone knows about it and knows who did it.

This is not the first time Putin has sanctioned a plane crash to kill one man. Not long into his reign, Putin had his political rival General Alexander Lebed killed via plane crash. He was an Airborne Troops Commander before running against Yeltsin in 1996 Presidential Election. He died via plane crash in 2002, in a way the Russian military has declined since his passing.

Prigozhin was a dead man walking the moment his attempted insurrection failed. He knew it and surrounded himself with bodyguards so Putin couldnt get to him. The only way to eliminate him was by an indirect method.

Exactly, he really didn't seem that stupid that he'd take his top team on his private plane for a personal visit to Putin, giving Putin the time and place of his trip.
