Looks like the sweetheart deal to prevent future prosecutions was the real purpose. Obviously Hunters sees the jail writing on the wall and doesn't want to go. Remember how Fed trials have a massive win rate?

I wonder if Hunter will sell out dad.......
You're going to take heat by partisans here for your limited commentary, but I think it is clear that the entire plea deal was a mess. They put Judge Noreika on the spot. She rightfully challenged the attorneys involved.

As far as the Special Counsel is concerned, let's see how this Weiss led Counsel plays out. I would kind have liked to see someone like Jack Smith leading the Special Counsel. He appears to be a non-partisan bulldog.

I don't know. Jack Smith seems like he likes to prosecute high-profile people.

We might disagree on this, but Trump will always find trouble because he is arrogant and oblivious. I think Trump is past his shelf-life. In other words he's too old now. All that aggression and taking on the political establishment in 2016 has digressed into many absurd and incoherent words and action. I blame some of this on advancing age.

Maybe so?? However, if Trump is past his shelf life, Joe Biden, certainly is, as well!!

Interesting takes on this matter even if you don't think the Hunter Biden situation is not a big deal.

Garland theoretically cordons Weiss and his team from Congressional questioning by making this an ongoing investigation. I do believe Weiss (or at the very least Garland) said he had all the authority he needed.

After watching this clip, I have to wonder if this investigation will be dragged out beyond November 2024. Which would be bizarre because, I think the prosecutors involved have said that this investigation was properly conducted in the fullest.

Have to wonder if Gavin Newsom will now think you know what.....I have heard enough I'm running.

Even CNN (who I'm not a big fan of), said none of this makes sense??

CNN legal correspondent: "It's messy." "The whole thing is a disaster for everyone." I've always had a lot of respect for Jake Tapper who seemed like he was dragged under the Zucker-era influence.

If you watch the CNN and Fox News clips here, I'm not sure other than tone and enthusiasm they're not saying essentially the same thing.

If liberal media tires of going to bat for Biden, it's game over for his 2024 chances. I don't think it will take a lot for a solid primary challenger to take him down.

So what the article actually said was:

But at a stunning three-hour court hearing last month, the deal nearly collapsed under scrutiny from the federal judge overseeing the case. District Judge Maryellen Noreika said the intertwined deals to resolve the tax and gun charges were “confusing,” “not straightforward,” “atypical” and “unprecedented.” At the end of that hearing, she ordered the Justice Department and Hunter Biden’s lawyers to file additional legal briefs defending the constitutionality of the agreement.

Friday, Weiss said talks had failed.

“After the hearing, the parties continued negotiating but reached an impasse,” prosecutors wrote. “A trial is therefore in order.”

By naming Weiss as a special counsel, Garland gave him further independence from the Justice Department as he embarks on an unprecedented trial against the son of the sitting president, and as Republicans claim the department is politicized.

The White House and Hunter Biden’s legal team were not informed beforehand of the decision to appoint a special counsel, according to a senior Justice Department official.

So the plea deal was fucked up on technical grounds that you would have to be a US criminal law attorney to understand. So it's not really "headed to trial". It's just headed to another, better drafted plea deal.

There's nothing about Joe taking bribes or Hunter selling Joe out. This is all just Butler's weird fantasy delusion about what's going on. What seems to be happening is Hunter is facing tax evasion charges and gun charges and the deals will have to be re written and kept separate.

That's all, folks!

Wow, this could really impact Hunter's chances at being elected into office.
Frank, you know the adage "the cover-up is worse than the crime." This messy Hunter legal situation is not good for Joe Biden.

I guess, we'll have to agree, to disagree!!

Weiss should not have been allowed to become special counsel, in the first place!!

The "liberal media" - whatever the fuck that is? - actually reports that Biden gets legislation passed frequently and competently. Unlike Trump, who was largely ineffectual. Biden is actually capable, due to his long years of high level experience in DC. The issue is that he's not as capable as he used to be and he will lose ability over the next 4 years.

Hence Gavin Newsom. Or whomever.

I don't think there's any sort of "liberal media" - whatever the fuck that is? - conspiracy to prop up Biden. They'd be just as happy with Newsom / whomever as well. It's Hillary Syndrome wherein anyone who challenges the Dem frontrunner - however compromised - is seen as a traitor to the party.

So what it's going to take is a health crisis of some sort to get Biden to step aside and let some alternatives emerge.
