First year of watching the World Cup and I admit I did read tons of hype prior to any of the games. I would have to say the worst 3 performances were : ( not in any order ): Can vs AUS , USA vs PORT & GERM vs KOR . Had I owned one of those Back to The Future sports almanacs, 50:1 easy. UGH .
I agree with you about the 3 worst performances:
1. Not one Canadian player stood out in the 3 matches. Canada needed only a draw against Australia to progress. But erratic passing and not enough commitment doomed them
2. The only USA player playing well is Naomi Girma, and she is a defender. Again erratic passing and not enough commitment by USA players. Sweden will knock them out if they dont improve
3. German coach waited till 85th minute before passing message to team they needed to win to advance. Incomprehensible. Crosses were the predominant German strategy. They were doomed once Korea figured out how to deal with them

One thing is clear: if a team doesnt show enough commitment, chase after every ball, they are going out. Example was Colombia today. The feistiness they showed to defeat Germany was gone as they lost feebly to Morocco. Even the magical Linda Caicedo was nowhere to be found.

Great tournament. Loving it even with Canada out

The betting public has the Final: SP vs ENG, ENG Winner
With Germany out, England has the easiest route to the final. And they have Lauren James who can score from long range. She is the difference maker and one reason England is the favourite.
Spain will not get past the Netherlands. Japan will knock out the US in that bracket on their way to the final.
Japan vs England in the final with England coming out on top

Netherlands best value at 11:1 odds , but most bookies don't have them getting past Spain in the quarters. In one and done tournaments and you've come this far, I take that SPA vs NED matchup as even. I would even parlay NED with ARGOS to repeat and even though your bet is tied up until December , it's 32.5:1 odds. I might look at that 2 pick parlay: NED / ARGOS . . . . Great notice on the NED !

In the United States, the men's national team voluntarily agreed to pool their winnings from last year's world cup with the winnings of the women's team from this year's world cup and split the total equally with the women. Several of the players on the US squad earn big bucks playing in Europe. This is why they can afford to be charitable. Will Canadian players, most of whom play for relatively meagre money in the MLS, afford to be as charitable towards the women? It's their choice. Free enterprise at work.

Ok Spain go it easily with stellar finishing. But i’m not sure Switzerland was that strong.

Japan knocking out Norway was impressive. Whoever doubt go look at the last goal they did. I have not seen a woman player make such a great pass splitting the whole defence in this cup. Brilliant! Japan will win this!

In hindsight, when the Spain vs Japan game was playing out, Spain wanted to concede 1st place in their group to play the Swiss. Norway was supposed to be the tougher out. Great choice ! That is what I thought but nobody believed me... Anyways, go Spain go !

Switzerland in current past play tight one goal games and if you take out their lone 2-0 win vs the PHIL they scored a total of zero goals. Zero !

Political undercurrents in Round of 16:

1. Netherlands vs South Africa: The Dutch who migrated to South Africa implemented the brutal apartheid system
2. France vs Morocco: Morocco was a colony of France. French is the main language of communication. Morocco will love nothing but put one over France: it wont happen
3. England vs Nigeria: Nigeria was a colony of England. English is the lingua franca. Nigeria would love nothing more than put one over England. It wont happen

Perfectly weighted pass, it cut the Norwegian defense like a Ginsu knife, this is the kind of pass you'd expect to see
in Brazil/Argentina/France/Spain games in the men's WC. And that goal line diving save by Yamashita was top notch.

The Americans don't want to go to spot kicks against the Swedes, Zecira Musovic is the best goalie in the tournament.

Americans dominated that game completely yet can't finish... Soccer is cruel sometimes.

Hats off to that swede goalie, who seems to be from Serbia or Croatian descent, she saved her team 3 times during the game.
