Actually immigration IS under control. The government has set a target and is apparently meeting it. Do you think that Trudeau just pulled the figure out of his ass one day?..... No. It was worked out by his economic advisors in consultation with business. And of course the pension experts.
The # of immigrants = the number of new people to keep the economy and pension plan afloat, since Canadians aren't replacing themselves due to low birth rate.
The problem is that the # of housing starts doesn't keep up with population growth. Therefore, housing price inflation occurs in more desirable locations. I don't like that either. But housing price inflation is only one aspect of the economy. If you froze the # of immigrants at 0 for 20 years to force Toronto housing prices down, then you would bust the rest of the economy.

As I said way back, maybe the question should be “how many per year”…..for the past 20 years or so, that number has been around 200,000. So the same logic applies…if many strategists who certainly knew we needed them…..and why were comfortable inching up from I think 160,000 back around 2000.

have the data required to even begin to settle on a number. Or expertise….What we can assume is that doubling it all of a sudden, when for the past 20 years, it had been inching up…..but what really pisses me off. If I could see this coming back around 2008……why the F couldn’t they.???
Why couldn’t they start building infrastructure elsewhere, do what they had to to keep industry and jobs in other parts of the country….create jobs in other parts of the province/country…you know. Diversity?????

Small town Ontario driven to its knees 2003-2010? Still begging for the time of day. And on the topic of economies, tax revenue. There are things called local economies….Guess what happens when a major plant that employs say 25-30% of a small towns population closes….well the municipality loses a shit tonne of tax revenue.has to raise land taxes, or cut services….the waitress who used to get tips from plant employees…..I don’t recall which town it was exactly. Maybe Goderich.
They hiked land taxes 26% so they could pay the OPP. You guys whine about tolls on the 407-412/418..and Ford kills them. I’ll go even further ( could also again mention Hydro or Carbon taxes)
