There is some precedent for it though in so much as a lot municipalities have started going after people that take unnecessary risk. People that end up stranded on ice, get lost etc.

As for taking risk, humankind have been taking risk since the dawn of time. My ancestors took a huge risk leaving the cave.

I believe the submersible wasn't originally built for tourism.
It was initially used for expedition. Only at a later time were
tourists brought in to finance expenses of the operation of
the sub. It could have been a crew of scientists entirely to
perish in this trip. You may not feel sympathetic for the
billionaires for the misfortune of being adventurous. But
I think the design and construction of the submersible for
deep sea exploration does merit appreciation.

Agree. This was not built for tourists but the rich are paying the bill
so we should stop calling them names and they are trained for
specific work while on the sub and they are courageous same with space tourists who have already bought early bird tickets. Money they spend is well spent instead of another yacht

The only toilet was a large Ziploc bag and you have to go in front of everyone. Not exactly "business class" amenities for $250K.

I read today that, although the hull was supposedly able to withstand the pressure at 13,000 feet, the porthole was only rated for 4,265 feet, and the company wasn't willing to pay for a porthole that would withstand a depth of 13,000 feet.
