not always sure...
I am really impressed with the Golden Knights. No 50 goal or 100 point scorer. No one making north of $10mm and they are up 1-0 in the cup finals.
Both teams roll 4 effective lines and the knights in particular have remarkable depth.

I mean they're competing in the Stanley Cup finals with their 4th string goaltender, maybe 5th string depending how you measure Jonathon Quick.
Adin Hill's only playing because Robin Lehner, Logan Thompson and Laurent Brossoit are all injured. That's a remarkable bullpen.

So the Habs just locked in their sniper, Cole Caulfield, for 8 years and an aav of $7.85 mil. That's their two young stars (Suzuki) making under $8mil per.

I would consider those very team-friendly deals considering that the cap will rise, perhaps significantly, over the next few years.

Granted, he has yet to really prove himself but is on his way there. This would allow spending elsewhere as well to build around their young stars.

Plus they have Phil Kessel on the team!

I'm not sure if you've been watching: he's been a healthy scratch through the playoffs.

Kessel played a few games against Winnipeg in the first series because of injuries but against the Oilers, Stars, and Panthers Bruce Cassidy has been going with younger players.

Cheeseburger Phil might be winning his third Stanley Cup ring but it'll be while watching in the press box.

I think our friend Ref was kidding.

The Golden Knights are proof that the key to success is superior management and not simply throwing money at players like the Leafs.

Bruce "Sundance Kid" Cassidy must be happy he is now with the GK's.

It's possible Mr. Kessel will be in the HOF. At least 400 goals and at least 3 rings.

After all Dick Duff is in the Hall.

Well he will soon have three more rings than the Leafs have managed to get in the past half century.

Vegas will also be another expansion team that has managed to build a cup winner before the Leafs have even had a team make the finals!

The reason why the Leafs haven't reached the Finals is very simple. Alex Peterangelo was captain of the St Louis Blues when they won The Cup, he could get his second ring this season with the Golden Kings. When was the last time the Leafs had an elite defenseman...he passed away last November.

Peterangelo is from King City.

Kessel is turning 36 this year so unless the new G.M. changes their recruitment philosophy, the Leafs may approach him in a year or two about returning to Toronto for a league-minimum contract.

Overpaying 3 forwards and then being forced to sign over the hill players for the league minimum has not proven successful.

Florida has not lost in OT in 2023 playoffs. They've won 7 straight.
When Montreal won the cup in 93 they won 10 straight OT games.

If the Denver Nuggets win the Larry O' Bee before the Stanely Cup is awarded, Colorado will hold the NHL and NBA championships at the same time(breifly).

Yes, briefly.

I cleared my schedule and will definitely watch the Vegas game to-night. I am really impressed by the Golden Knights and pulling for them to win the Stanley Cup to-night. Maybe Bruce "Sundance Kid" Cassidy will get his Cup. However, I would like to see Matthew Tkachu-k (check sp) win the Conn Symthe (check sp).

I've been really impressed with Vegas. Very strong, tough, and deep. No prima Donna's.
Everybody gives 100 to work toward common goal.
The leafs are so far behind them. Not even close to being at the same level.

Yes. My idea of the ideal captain is still Shea Weber but Captain Mark Stone comes close. It's obvious he (Stone) is injured and the Panthers show him no mercy but he's still out there on the ice.

And Vegas has an owner, who, above all else, wants to win. When Vegas joined the league, the owner said he wanted to win the Cup within six years. He's done everything to help his staff put together a winning team.

As opposed to partners who pretty much hate each other and are only interested in having you over pay for their shitty 5G networks. And before that, a teachers pension who's only objective was to maximize earnings (so why spend when the money is coming in anyways). And let's not forget Ballard.

I think the best sports franchises are those that are individually owned rather than corporate. The individuals all made their money elsewhere and just want to win. Maybe they should adopt the NFL approach in the NHL, that is, ownership is individual, not corporate (at one time, not sure if its still like this).

LOL! Thanks, he's probably looking at this post with a microscope right now. We, maybe me have to be extra careful now because TERB's "typo policeman" is on the job. Whew, that was a close one.

BTW: I feel a lot safer now I got you guys looking out for me.

BTW 2: I don't peruse that many posts (too busy being mall cop) but I found 3 typos by 2 members earlier to-day.
