LE have DNA of suspect but dont know who he is. But relatives have DNA profiles on 23andme and other genealogy websites. So suspect DNA uploaded and voila, they find links to the relatives. LE then builds family tree of relatives and find links to any of them resident in the crime areas at the time of the crimes. Now with a name, they retrieve DNA of suspect from discarded articles and compare with DNA of suspect on record. Hit. Arrest.

Many criminals are being snagged with this strategy, the latest alleged criminal being a New Jersey attorney for 3 rapes in 2007/2008. 👏

Amazing what they are doing with DNA. Just recently, DNA was used to identify the man who raped and murdered Sharron Prior.

I remember reading a comment on a you tube video about serial killers. "The 70's were the glory days of being a serial killer. No DNA, no internet, no closed circuit cameras..."

And this is why I will never use those services. Not because I actually commit crimes but just finding DNA at a scene can get you looked at.

It doesn't matter, most of the matches that I've read about are matches to family members of the perpetrator. They can trace it down to your immediate family and from there they look further to see which family member it was. You're going to have to convince your parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, grandparents, kids and grandkids to stay off those sites. If any family member told me not to go on one of those sites, I'd probably be curious about why and I'd sign up the same day.

In talking to my family in the past none of us have any interest. We pretty know the lineage back 4 or so generations and thats fine with us.

My point being I'm not just handing over my DNA to strangers for a fun thing.

Question: What would your DNA be doing at a crime scene?
A leftover drink container, or any of a hundred ways.

Or closer to home an SP visit, facial given, next client kills her. But its your DNA there. Juries and prosecutors love DNA like that.

Obviously an outlier, but the point is DNA is left around all the time.

Also, don't forget that you're leaving quite the ignominious, forensic trail right here on TERB.

So you will leave your DNA on her face but not with a company’s data base. Got it! LOL😉

Approx. half of all murders in the U.S. go unsolved. It is easier to solve a crime or a murder when the perpetrator is known to the victim. In a store robbery where the perpetrator has left behind DNA evidence but has never been had his DNA tested can be caught if he has relatives that have submitted related DNA to a database.

So what are you saying? You are now requiring a mandatory deposit of DNA on your face?

It's really just a matter of time before this information is released to insurance companies and employers.

No. I insist on a clean environment and the destruction of evidence - so I will just swallow, thanks.
Fuck, my first thought was, "does the stomach acid destroy the DNA or is it passed during defecation/urination for later collection". I'm such a geek. That should not have been my first thought.

Not me. I'm not a facial guy. But I get others do.

Me I'm a take the condom with me and dispose elsewhere type.
I have to ask, does that type of paranoia get to you after a while or is it like women when we are just naturally in our guard in certain situations?

I would just think that maddening to have to be that cautious.

You go for groceries. You pick up an apple and reject it. The next customer picks up that apple and takes it home and is murdered before consumption. LE finds your DNA on the apple. Voila, you are busted. This is what you are referring to, right?
