It's either a really strong case with a metric ton of evidence against him or a house of cards.
Realistically, at a minimum, they'll pin him with some type of tax evasion charge. It's the easiest way to lock someone up, even if there is no evidence of other wrongdoing.

They're going to drag this out for the full 6 months that they can.
He's pissed off someone so bad that the order is to grind him down.
I can imagine that they're treating him as inhumanely as possible as well to break him.
The flipside is that the evidence against him is so massive that they need extra time to prepare.
But their reason is that he has multiple passports and millions of $$$$ and will fuck off out of Romania within a couple of hours, if he is let out of jail. That's a good reason.
